Error: sitting on hollow objects is not allowed

I have some wooden benches made out of 4 slabs of wood. If I link them together, I can't sit in the center of the bench, I get:

Alert: sitting on hollow objects is not allowed.

I can sit on the ends, and if I un-link them I can sit in the center.

What would cause this, and more important, what can I do about it? My property is in Lusk at 140,204, I left one of the front benches linked, and one un-linked if anyone wants to try it themselves.

Make sure the parent object is not hollow, the parent object is the last object selected when you you link. A work around is put a thin invisible cube over the area you want people to sit and link that as the parent.

I checked all 4 slabs, and none of them were hollow. I'll check again, and if it still does it I'll just rebuild the thing from scratch. What is strange is that I can sit on it where the two upright supports are, as if it thinks the bottom bench part is hollow or not there. I'll check it again when SL opens up - it's too early, and I can't log in now *cries* *withdrawals*

You could always create an object with the see-through texture and link that up to your object. Then you could click on the clear object to sit on :)

Glad someone else is noticing this problem. I, too created chairs and other solid objects that respond with the same warning that you can't sit on hollow objects. Why not be able to sit on hollow objects? It's a shame when it takes hours to build something to sit on (like the garden loungers that are for sale at the Furniture Warehouse) only to find out that they're useless unless you feel comfortable sitting on top of the back of the lounger or on the arm rests of some chairs. It's the game that needs fixing, not the builders and linkers.. although I understand what you're saying Xavier.

One of many bugs I guess, I'm sure they're working on it.

Best Regards

Peter:) :
