Mystery Toy! w/reward?

Okay,

So I can hardly use SL cause of that stupid "turning bug" (at least I cant use it without screaming anyway), so I will make as many trivial posts as I can here to punish the world for my woes...

Well not really, but this is pretty far off topic.

I went in to the city a few weeks ago and bought a shoebox full of junk for 50 cents, carefully noting that a very strange and interesting toy was in there. I collect toys a bit, but only certain kinds, and not usually this kind, but it was so cute I thought it worthwhile. I have looked it up in all the books I have and on the Net as well and have found nothing.

It appears to be a Japanese Robot toy possibly a character from a TV show or movie, it is made of lead or some kind of pot metal and is very heavy. The legs are jointed with metal rivets and the arms turn. It appears to have had something in its hands at one point, and it cant be too old as the eyeballs are plastic, so its not one of those war-time things or anything that far back, I'm guessing 70's or 80's? I tried to photograph the writing on the bottom of the feet but my camera is not up to the task. Other than the copyright symbol, it is all in Japanese?

I put the question mark there as i can only sometimes tell the difference between Japanese writing and Chinese or Korean (yes I *know* there is a big diference, I am just not so good at telling unless there is context :)). Since there are only a few characters there just isn't enough to go on for me although it sure looks more like Japanese, especially since the writing on one foot is in a really "stylin" font.

Anyway.... If anyone can identify the thing I would be greatfull as it drives me nuts every once in a while when I look at it and trying to figure it out.

I am offering a reward if that's what it takes, although I can't think what that would be, so it's your choice, tell me what you want (within reason :)) and I will do/get/give it to you. The reward will vary though. If your answer is "it sorta reminds me off that thing..." then your reward will be lower than if your answer is "it is <name> and was made in <name>."

Picture is below, the reason I am writing so long here is sadly, it will probably only take three seconds for *someone* to identify it and I have to fill up the thread somehow.

:)

no idea about the robot.

Every time you turn, you freeze, stutter or otherwise have an infuriating time.
Cant play music cause it stutters, and cant engage in my favorite pastime of dancing around in my living room. :(

Well not in SL anyway.

My extensive research only came up with:

Check the feet and the back. There is usually some form of writing in one or the other... usually either a company or product line name. Also, the hands appear to have been made to grip/hold something... either weaponry or possibly a cable/line. It may be a piece from a larger toy set.

Initial research indicates it may well be an early model of the Diapallon robotic play sets. Here's a later example that is strikingly similar to the item you found:

http://www.robot-japan.com/DiapalGr.jpg

The full line from the late 80's can be seen here:

http://www.robot-japan.com/grip.htm

Again, similarities abound.

The search for an exact match (or verification of this theory) goes on...

metal.

And the writing on the bottom of the shoes is all in Japanese (probably), so that is no help to me, and I dont have a closeup lens anyway, so you cant read it in the photo.

Even though I am no closer to kowing I must say I appreciate all the help and the *bumps*

Ciena gets the prize so far for being close, it's probably a 70's all-metal version of the ones she posted the link to. But I have to *know*!

:)

Why now post pictures of it on an antique toy website and ask for help?

ok just showed the pciture off here at work (I work the late shift) and my boss just screamed SPECTREMAN AND WONDER WOMAN! and started doing a whole bunch of anime moves. Like wonder woman using her bracelets to dodge bullets I think. Did a search but I think this guy is either a bad guy or more obscure 60-70 anime unit. My supervisor did say it looked familiar though.

EDIT: It appears to be possibily part of a special type of japanese TV called tokusatsu which is basicly live action. Godzilla, Ultraman, and ever...yes...can you feel it.....

Power Rangers!

were all part of this style of japanese tv show.

It is definitely not a collectible, or I would have that 'proof'for you already... I happen to have a friend who is entirely too deep into collecting such things... and he doesn't recognize it. I think most likely it is an early version of a lesser-known Japanese or possibly even Korean bad guy or perhaps a bad guy from an Americanized version of a lesser-known Japanese or possibly Korean bad guy.

Without the markings from the feet, he and I are both stumped.

Do you read Japanese? I could maybe stand him on the scanner and get a scan of the feet. I am more and more sure it is Kanji.

It is very late here but I will even write it out if you think it will get you closer. I will post something tomorow when i get up.

If it is more obscure and also earller than most though, isn't it even more collectible?

Okay very last bump by me...

I copied as best I could the markings on the feet.
The top row is the right foot and the bottom row is the left. These were really blurry so they might not be acurate.

Can't you copy the foot markings into Paint or something and then upload them here?

Well i cant get my camera to focus that tight, they are always blurry like in the original image post. I did copy them out in pen though and put it in the post above yours.
