no more public land?

i saw a plot of land (Paikea #010 - (168, 106) - 2,016 m2) that went through the entire auction process without getting any bids. i saw it in the 'closed auctions' as having '0' bids. according to the Lindens, this would mean that it would go public.

BUT...

i just saw this:

Paikea #010 (168,106) - 2016 m2 L$2,016 0 1d 22h 42m

..does this mean that there will no longer be public land released due to non-bidding???

it would be great to have an official Linden answer on this. mainly due to determining whether we should spend time watching for plots to go public, or would this just be a waste of precious time?

thank you.

I think (dont take this as offical fact by a long shot, just what I seem to recall hearing) that all land is given a second chance in the auctions.

Is it being auctioned now or just sold? 2016 meters of public land would sell for $2016 Lindens.

Devlin,

it's in the auctions. i copied/pasted that right from the auctions page.. if it was just being sold, then that would be fine because it would be the same price regardless.

but nope, got snuck back into the auctions.. maybe i should have asked about when it was going up..

i ended up tiering up a while back because i was able to get some public land in Ganymede. then i went and bid on the neighboring plot.

i've tiered back down since then.. having sold my land and focusing on my land in Miramare, but the point is that public land could lead to MORE continuous revenue instead of just a little less for one plot here and there.

While I can't comment on the auction in particular because I don't know the exact circumstances, I will make the observation that we do reserve the right to reauction parcels when the high bidder backs out due to a bidding mistake. It doesn't happen often, but we have had to do it.

colin, y'all are well within your rights to reserve that right. but understand that it casts a shadow over ll to do such things. that shadow's been growing pretty dark lately.

Throughout the entire Land for the Landless and the Auctions, the Lindens have been inconsistent with their own stated policies regarding release of non-auctioned or non-claimed land. They have pulled back land already in the middle of an auction so that it could be used for Land for the Landless, have let unauctioned land sit fallow for weeks, not released land that was unclaimed for weeks, etc.

That's just a fact of life right now regarding LL support, which will hopefully be fixed in the near future.

This has been covered in various other threads as well.

true, but...

Colin,

i understand that stance and it makes perfect sense. i have no 'complaint' about a plot being re-auctioned due to some problem with a high bidder.

However, this was not the case. the plot of land i mentioned had not had any bids before it ended and was listed in the completed auctions with having no bids.

i'm not questioning the intentions of LL, i'm wondering if plots that end with no bids are still supposed to go public? or has that been abandoned?

I don't think the lindens can really answer. You will get different answers, depending on what Linden you talk to. They are swamped right now, and I think they need to get their policies, enforcement, and follow-through fixed first before you'll get a straight answer.

Hank,

good point. i believe we'll be seeing a lot of growing pains for quite awhile. i think we're still extremely early in the development of SL.. and that there are many wonderful things to come.

--

unlike many other online 'games', SL isn't something where it says, "here we are, this is what to expect." it's more of, "here we are, this is a continuously growing experience. what you see today is only a precursor to tomorrow. enjoy helping us become something incredible.. then we'll grow some more."

SL is SO incredibly unique it boggles the mind to think what can happen in the future. which just isn't true of any other game or online-experience.

Cybin there is a lot in Albion..that has been marked as governor..parcel 008 yadda yadda for like forever.
When inquiring about it, it was supposed to go up for auction...it never did
either they forgot about it...or they were too busy putting new ones up...so I think the idea is to reauction some of those lots...question is when though...

and the way auctions are going currently...it seems LL might just want to sell the land to a handful of people for X L$/sqm and let them make the profits ;)

they give us one week to claim land that we've won in an auction excuse me

ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha

thank you so i suppose they deserve the same.

of course if you don't claim the land in a week, there is no real penalty. it stays for sale to you for zero lindens until, well, forever. so if, instead of mimicing the rule, they copy the practice, the answer is never.

lol

that's a good point!

of course, i think they should stick to the rules when it comes to SLer buyers.. unless, the winning bidder contacts LL and has a good reason why they can't pick it up in that week.

i'm not even that interested in the land.. or the other one that recently closed at 0 bids.. i just want to know if these types of instances will result in public land or if all 0 bids will just be run through the bidding process again?

ps - remember the original plot i started this thread about? well, it just ended a little while ago. this time it didn't make it through with 0 bids.. it got 1.. yes 1! which means they got the same price paid for it anyway.. lol..
..sorry, the irony just tickles my funny bone.

oh, also, i would just like to make it clear that i'm NOT Linden-bashing. i'm just confused as to how this is supposed to be working now.
