http://www.infoworld.com/article/05/06/30/HNmstobuyadware_1.htmlI have been a Linux user off and on for about a year or two now. Reason I can't stick too it is just too use to Winblows. So go ahead Bill ole boy buy up that adware and give me a dang reason to switch. Oh and they say they are worried about backlash yet still in talks,... must not be that worried? Oh and it this has been posted elsewhere I apologize.

Okay, so first Microsoft comes out with spyware removal tool that becomes wildly popular. Now they're looking at buying spyware companies. Anyone else see what's happening here? I'd call it elminating the competition. That's right kids; spyware is an awful, terrible, evil thing that you must remove from your computer now, not because you don't want to be spied on, but because all the cool kids are gonna get spied on by Microsoft, and Microsoft alone.
I'm usually pretty quick to defend MS against all the "evil empire" kind of talk that they tend to generate with every move, but this one is just all kinds of wrong. Sorry, MS, you've lost me this time around. Whether they end up buying Claria or not, the message is clear. MS wants to be in the spyware business, and that's really frightening. I hear Linux a callin'. Maybe it's time to pick up the phone.

At the risk of getting beat up, what if Gates is planning to buy it just to shut it down? It would be a great boost to his popularity and cheap (for him). At 500 million price tag, he will still be worth over 41 billion dollars.

That's possible too.... not sure if the strategy would work long term though. Why can't another one just spring up in it's place?
