I've been catching up on the exploit from Monday and realized that for a lot of those whose code was distributed, they may have lost a vital part of thier business.

Is this something that can be fixed - can they regain thier market share after this or are all of the pre-exploit products now worthless from a sales perspective?

Most that I have talked to are already moving forward.

That's great news, I hope it works out well (considering) for all involved.

As a consumer, I have to admit I will be very wary of new items coming onto the market that too closely mimic an already-existing product, because I will be wondering if this is based on someone else's hard work. I don't want to support thieves and unethical creators with my money.

Oh give it a rest folks. Let's wait until there is a material impact on people (ie, they're actually losing sales) before we make a mountain out ot this non event.

You're all going to find, other than a couple of minor issues, this will rapidly become northing more than 'oh no sky is falling sky is falling'.

"User-created content takes the idea of leveraging player opinions a step further by allowing them to effectively prototype new ideas and features. Developers can then measure which new concepts most improve the products and incorporate them into the game in future patches."

- so sayeth the wise man.

I'm sure those whose code was published might have different feelings, blaze - but then again, you are THE man.

Oh, and for the record drama king, I was trying to get an understanding on the potential impact for those whose code was distributed.

Oh come on Juro. Do you not realize that if SL is not secure/stable/viable enough to invest this 50,000 USD I had earmarked for it, no one's code is worth worrying about?

Elitism is anti-evolutionary - which is why I act like such a snob in these matters. ;)

It is true. What are 99% of us going to do with old Giga's vendor code or ROAM scripts? Granted those are key components of their businesses, but they're combined with things like hard work and customer service. People who are willing to use stolen code they don't even understand are probably not business minded or dedicated enough to pursue the kind of success that the victims enjoy.
