I was just in world and happened to touch a metaverse builboard by mistake. I ry not to but I find this unavoidable because one often clicks on things to *make* them res, and clicking on an image that looks like any other product shot, or sign is a pretty easy thing to do anyway.
Okay, so one inadvertant click,... and I get an IM spam, a notecard, and a location marker, of course, the map pops up as well with the marker, and on a 12" screen that's murder.
Am I alone in thinking this incredibly rude? Why should I get all that crap on my screen to click off? If it merely "whispered" at me that it could give me the other crap (if I wanted), it would not be so bad.
Isn't there something in the TOS about harrassment? I dont think my one inadvertent click constitutes real permission to assail me that way.

. It's rude, but certainly not harassment nor is it actionable. Nor do I think it reflects poorly on MetaAdverse, but rather on the specific advertiser. Just vote with your dollar, and don't do business with annoying companies.

Sounds to me like they already lost a customer, which is probably punishment enough to them.

It gets a little crazy. As the metaverse evolves, advertising will become more pervasive.

Hmm you would have never been "harassed" if you didn't click on the object, and for some people it isn't harassment, it is information. Not all users are seasoned users, some people may want a notecard and a landmark, just because you don't doesn't mean it is a crime.

I remember clicking once on a lost "firefly" vehicle that had crash-landed in one of the then-new sim in the North Continent... It got stuck in a perpetual event loop giving me the same notecard over and over as fast as it could. I had to type an IM to the nearest Linden one letter at a time because the dumb things would pop up in the forefront continuously, every second (and my computer is slow). Now THAT is spam

I don't think it's in any way rude or even in the least bit surprising that upon interacting with an object that it performed an action. That's how many, many things in SL works. If it had just forced something on you by proximity detection then yes. But you OPTED to touch it. And a feature of MetaAdverse billboards is that they give you further information on the currently displayed product on touch! What, you'd find it less annoying if a dialogue popped up every time you interacted with an object to ask you if you really meant to interact with it?

I agree w/ kris. You clicked it - you got what it does.
If anything I find advertisement billboards to be less intrusive then a lot of other crap out there. & If I see an ad I like - I would like to get more information. By choosing to click it..
