I for one have spent over 10 hours trying to log into SL this past weekend. I, like many others pay more than the basic $9.95 base rate and am very frustrated I'm paying for services that are not being delivered.

In the 1st life when this happens we are often compensated with either a discount or a perk. It would be commendable of Linden Labs would consider doing the same. In either form of a L$ consolation or a discount on our billing to compensate the amount of time wasted trying to log in.

On another note, I have referred this game to many new people this past week, only to have them complain that they don’t see the point in signing up for a game they cannot access. Linden is loosing many new customers do to this problem they should have seen this situation coming a long time ago.

Thanks for reading,

They have done this in the past... both L$ and compensation on our bills for both Traffic and Land allotment fees.
Today in the Preview it was mentioned that it says in the TOS that they don't HAVE to compensate for downtime. Which i can see their point, but the Linden lab employee that was in the discussion mentioned that they DO like to compensate ( i guess it makes THEM look good) I know that other Online RPG's they Wouldn't even concider it.
So With that said, i wouldn't be surprised if we do see a little bit of compensation for traffic/land fees.

But that doesnt' even touch the money lost to business owners like myself where i have lost 2-5K L$ Per DAY because of this downtime mess :( and not to mention the customers that i have lost because i havn't been able to connect into world to refund items that i havn't been delivered or do refunds in general. Thank goodness i am able to reply to offline IM Emails to my customers that are IN World.

Yep - I've lost money (sales are a fraction of normal), which means that I can't keep all my rental spots going (which means that the mall owner suffers too). However those who returned 100 prims worth of stuff the second the rent expired won't be getting any more...

When 100 prims gets returned your IMs are capped so you don't get messages sent to you.

You get in, know not to risk teleporting so decide to fly across the world. You get caught by ****'s security script and end up in the teleport void anyway... Nothing came up in PvP abuse or I would have reported them. Now for another 30 min wait to get in?

I havent played many games but when I played UO and there were MAJOR bugs or downtime, they would compensate for it.. they wouldnt give us gold or even credit our account but they would make new "RARE" items and give us each one, some were the same were more "rare" than others... that way they didnt lose any money from it, but it shut us all up and we felt like they cared :P

I'll reply in this thread, too :-))

Last time a similar thing happened (maybe around fall??) Linden Labs compensated each (dunno if basic or just premium) player's account with L$ 1000, if I'm correct. It would be the least they could do after they fixed the current issues (though I don't care for the exacty amount of money, but just show something as a symbol).

There was something like this that happened on September 15, 2004 -- the day I joined SL. I came shortly at the tail end of the problems so I didn't know what the hubbub was all about. I haven't been able to find the exact posts as a source, but I did find this:
