In my opinion two killer applications can lead to dramatic expansion of SL. If future version of SL integrates the ability to easily "download" your power point slides and set up video conferencing by streaming video from your camera in real time. The possibilities than become extremely interesting for numerous reasons. Are there any plans for these technologies to be integrated into SL?

i'd write a few lines on why this might not work, but I'm on lunch break at work.

Actually, I was at a conference (RL Work in SL) the other day & they actually did something similar to that. The presenters imported their presentation slides as textures and attached them to an object so they could "almost" do a slide show! Very cool!

Wow ! That is exactly the type of thing I am thinking but maybe more user friendly. This can make going to conferences or RL meetings obsolete. I really think Lindens should focus on this aspect (if they are not already).

This is actually quite easy to do.

OpenOffice.org, the free, open-source Microsoft Office clone, has a program in it called PRESENT (Powerpoint Clone). You can open any Powerpoint document - and here's the cool part - save it as FLASH!

Then you can upload your .swf Flash file to any web server and stream it to a prim using the media URL on your land.

o.O Neat! :)

Not the same, but if I'm not mistaken - at Cory's last town hall, creating a "Whiteboard" prim came up in discussion as well.

Interactive flash on a prim would be quite cool. Maybe that'll come in 1.7.x with the browser? From what I hear the challenging is figuring out the correct X,Y location on the prim face when clicked. Maybe just stick to flat faces for now?

I've tried it, and its fantastic Eloise! I really like the new pre-caching feature.

/me makes a mental note to switch to cookies soon on SLBoutique.com so URLs work better, heh.

I've given a powerpoint presentation with Second Life before.

One problem though... this was during "omg I can't log in" week. Luckily I kept a real powerpoint presentation handy as a backup. :p
