Hi all, I'm still a newbie to this whole landowning thing. I have a house and some furniture but when it gets dark in SL I can't seem to find any lights. Are there light sources in the world?

Hi all, I'm still a newbie to this whole landowning thing. I have a house and some furniture but when it gets dark in SL I can't seem to find any lights. Are there light sources in the world? There are lights that you can buy, and you can set any modifiable prim to "Light" type under the object tab. But you won't gain alot of benefit unless you turn on your "Local Lighting" option under the graphics tab in your preferences, which will really slow down your SL experience, unless you have a smoking system with a great vid card. You best bet, if it's really dark inside your home, is to use lighter textures on your interior walls. You can also force the sun under the debug menu, which makes it like dusk or dawn. You can also just crank up your gamma (brightness settings). Personally, it never gets overly dark in SL for me. But then again, I like the dark... _____________________

Two things you can do.
Forget lamps, they're just for decoration, they can't put out enough light to actually illuminate much. Instead, go the the walls or ceiling of your house. Click on them and hit EDIT, go to OBJECT, then at the lower left corner you'll see a drop menu. It's usually defaulted to stone or wood. Change it to Light and bingo, an entire wall or ceiling section putting out light. Though color can be a problem of you have, I don't know, black walls, or ugly green walls ... you get the idea. Now this idea -can- cause lag for slower systems if you overdo it. Second: CNTRL+SHIFT+N and it's dayight again. _____________________

Lamps are not a waste of time if you build one properly. But if you're looking for an easy out: invisible phantom prims produce just as much light as opaque solid ones. A 10x10x0.1 invisible white prim on your ceiling would do wonders, and could compliment a decorative light fixture.
