Is 1.2 coming on the 22nd? Can I build my sky castle complete with gigantic globe lights with no fear of the tax-monster? Next stipend day is the 23rd....so....... What are the chances of avoiding a 24 hr delay? I'd like to start building 200 meters up, but I'm afraid of the $600 tax per-gigantic globe light

Good question, Bit. Lindens, have we seen the last of taxes in SL as of this week?

Hmmm, I asked this 4 hours ago and there's been no response...
If the Lindens know or don't know if 1.2 will be ready for 22nd then they're not saying.
Come on guys, at least tell us if there's gonna be another tax day so we can plan our finances

I know that this is going to really bug all of you, but there will NOT be another tax day before 1.2 release.
1.2 release is looking solid for next week. Details soon.

OK, high altitude building questions:
4096 is the top from what I can tell. But when I place an object at > 770m and then try to edit it, it drops down to 770m.
Anybody know why?

Anybody know why? Because objects aren't allowed above 768 meters. The more volume objects can be in, the harder rendering and physics are.

Anybody know why? You don't want to edit above 768 anyway. The higher you go, the less precision you get. If you fly up to a few thousand meters, primitives in any attachment you are wearing will start to jitter and shake independently. The effect isn't permanent from what I can tell, but it would probably be exasperating to build anything detailed at high altitude. BTW, the limit is not 4096... I've gone to 120 kilometers, others have gone much higher. (It is pretty eerie up there.)

Good input guys. Couple things I have experienced so far:
I haven't seen the attachment jitters all the way up to 4096m. Don't know why, but I'm glad.
I have been able to rez a platform at 4096 and walk around on it just fine.
I just setup an elevator that goes there and when it reaches that height it rezzes the floor. I step out of the elevator and everything is fine. (The platform derezzes itself after I leave the area.)
But, if I try to take the elevator any higher than 4096 it derezzes. (physics using llSetForce)
Huns, I guess you are traveling via an attachment to get those heights? Is it unlimited vertically? I am assuming that that is just 'virtual virtual space'.
Keep it coming guys, I really like this space exploration.

I'm willing to negotiate a price for the rights to build at 4000 meters above my land The 200 - 500 range is taken.

It would be interesting if the sim prim limit were 15,000 for 0-256m, 15,000 for 256-512m, and so on. I've noticed glassy smooth framerates at high altitude. Once you get high enough that you can't see the ground it doesn't seem to matter how many prims are below you.

Good point. I think that makes a good case for elevated builds now that the height tax is gone. Only problem is getting people to find them. You are right about the rendering when nothing else is around. It looks great.

I do know the editor won't let you place an object above 768. BTW how did you rez a platform at 4096? With a script or something? Attachment jitter is not very noticeable at a few thousand feet, unless your attachment has small parts. It becomes more and more noticeable as you go up higher.

Yeah, I took a space trip this morning via an attachment. Got to 643km. I ran into the attachment jitters in the 10,000m range and above. I also had sunken eyeballs at 643km. They must have jittered back into my head. Everything turned pitch black after a certain height. All I could see was myself. Even stopping at that height and looking at my attachments they were rendering very strangely (blocky).
As far as rezzing objects above 768m, yes I just rezzed them via script and they are fine. Just don't edit them or they drop down to 768m. Also, if you leave them above that height, they apparently get cleaned out sometime during the day (derezzed). Rezzing via script, above 4096m doesn't work though.
Here are a couple pics of outer space. Note: The helmet is round, and the staff is a disk shape. But, you will see how they rendered up there.
