Beta 5 day extension?

I talk with many friends outside of the SL environment having been a member since December. I was recently told that the dear people at Linden offered a five day extension for those who were "Still making up their mind."

I had made up my mind to join the community but had written beforehand explaining that my next payday wasn't until the 28th and din't want to miss the lifetime discount opportunity... then they extended the deadline to the 30th anyway. I still sent in my check :)

However, my account was disabled on the 23rd. I was given no 5 day extension on my beta account, although, according to people in SL, many, many were.

The individual who brought this to my attention had told me that Peter said it was done on "A case by case basis" and he didn't want to expound further.

I can't help but wonder why if this is in fact true. Was anyone on this board alloted five extra days? I just want to be certain this is, in fact, the case.

As much as I love SL and as much as I incredibly appreciate the experinces and the chance to interact with the developers, I am presented with an ethical dillema if in fact there are bouts of some players being granted special privileges while others are not.

The reason this has given me reason for pause is the fact that I am a teacher in world, I had an event scheduled (for today, in fact) and if some were offered a modest extension on their beta account before paying, why wasn't everyone.

Perhaps someone here on this board knows more about it than I, I can only assume I am missing something somewhere. Can someone 'in the know' explain the situation?

Thanks!

Its my understanding the 5 day period is so you can still have your accout/av. I -believe- that anyone who hadnt signed up was locked out on the 23rd and the extension didnt include access.

The 5 day trial doesen't include Beta people at all. The 23'rd deal was only meant for Beta residents and the game is now live. Now anyone (Non-Beta) that signs up for the game now that it's live will not be given the Beta discounts but are still allowed the 5 day trial. So really even with your account not active you are still receiving the discount. That's why none of the Beta people that didn't convert by the 23'rd didn't get to play. I understood it as with the people who join up with the live game, they get 5 days to avaluate it. These people don't get to upload sounds or images and are limited in alot of ways for 5 days. If they extended the 5 day trial for Beta people then the Beta people would be wondering why they can't upload images and sounds. They intentionally did it this way to not create total Chaos and confusion between Beta people and Non Beta People.

It's true we're offering 5-day free trials to new folks who sign up.

It's also true that we extended the beta signup deadline to the 30th (Monday), which I guess is a 7-day extension. We've still disabled the accounts of everyone who didn't pay, but their stuff is preserved. They can convert their account w/ beta pricing through the 30th and get back in, but after the 30th they'll have to pay full-fare. Also, after the 30th we're going to stop holding onto everyone's in-world content, so look for alot of decaying land and objects this coming week.

What I believe we have done on a case-by-case basis is extend the 30th deadline for people who are mailing us checks or otherwise having a hard time getting us the money. This is just a good-faith move on the understanding that "the check's in the mail" - these folks still can't actually log in until we receive payment.
