The project I started to bring the AIDS Memorial Quilt to SL is off to a good start. I'm really excited at the response I've gotten from people, and I'm looking forward to seeing the quilt that SL residents create to honor their loved ones lost to AIDS.

We now have a group called Second NAMES for working on the quilt - it's an open group so join up if you want to. We have weekly meetings, Tuesday 7:30pm in Zoe (215,46). We still need help to create the event, and people to create panels for the quilt.

We'll be displaying our creation for a week starting on 12/1, World AIDS Day. The Lindens have generously offered land for the display of the quilt in Plum near the old arrival center. My understanding is this land is going to be available for all sorts of this kind of event after we get our turn. (I hope I'm not stealing LL's thunder by letting that info out.) Thanks Robin for setting this up!

I have set up a quilting workshop area in Zoe (212,116). We'll have scheduled quilting bees there frequently over the next two weeks, where we'll help you put your quilt panel together. Check the events listing for the next workshop. Feel free to stop by anytime to work on a panel - even if there isn't a workshop scheduled I'm happy to help out if I'm around.

By the way, we have decided to allow 3D constructions for quilt panels, so the quilt can embody the full creativity of SL residents. Stop by and see some early submissions to see what people are making.

peace!

Thanks for the bump, StoneSelf...

We're having another quilting bee tonight at 6:30pm (followed by a Second NAMES meeting at 7:30). We've gotten a lot of interest in the project, so I'm expecting a good turnout. Looks like some top-notch builders are interested in helping quilters with panel construction. Not sure who will be around when, but more details as we figure that out...

We're also reaching out to the RL NAMES Project, so see if we can get any synergy with them. (Don't hate me for using the word "synergy", I've lived in California too long!)

This project is an opportunity for people to get out there and express their values and concerns. A lot has happened in the USA to divide it from the rest of the world and split it into two parts, but it's not helpful to lie around in confusion. World citizens who care about others might find this the perfect place to renew their faith in mankind.
