Am i the only one outraged by all of this ? I mean christ! come on lindens! get your ducks in a row! I'd expect this kind of instability from maybe, everquest or some free service, but we're PAYING good money for this service!

Am i the only one left wondering why we're paying at all for a system that's down more often than we can enjoy it ? Maybe we should be credited for time that we can't use the system then... most ISP's do that..

Just my 2 cents.

I've been on hiatus from SL for several months now and just came back today pretty much..... Walking back into the world and seeing the arguably ridiculous problems still popping up is rather comforting to me... kinda like being away from my house for a while and coming home to that old beat up comfy recliner in my living room. ;)

No, I don't think you're the only one. I have stood up for S/L programmers, saying how much they have to contend with in putting a program like this together. Yet now I'm beginning to believe they are thinking with their butts instead of their heads.

The 'talk' with Phillip Linden today seemed more like prewritten responses to the 'type' of questions they felt they would most likely get - anything off their programmed list of topics was not addressed in any way. His responses were totally vague with as little direct answers as possible. I've seen this before in a company I use to work at.

In order for many to even log in, they had to fix the time on their computer to the day before (coincidental that it was also next to impossible to log in the last time Phillilp 'talked'?).

With each advanced and updated patch, I find my S/L working worse instead of better. I have talked to live help and sent in bug reports. I have not had one reasonable response to even indicate that what I'm asking about has been looked into.

Tonight when I finally got a Linden to respond, I was told to try calling the support hotline. I have a feeling that their support hotline will be comprised of folks straight off the street with little or no education in what they are doing to help members. If I'm wrong, I'll be extremely surprised.

I had similar problems last night. It was 10:30pm CST, and i would of stayed around to address it further, but i had to leave for work at 11:00p.

But i logged in when i got up at 10, and tried to login to SL, and found some error, retarded the date by 1 day, and it worked. I looked ALL over the forums, and at the time, i found a great many threads about everyone else having the same problem, but NO LINDENS WOULD COMMENT IN THE THREADS.

I thought they didn't even know it existed, so i contacted LiveHelp inside SL, and when i asked "Are the lindens aware of the time problem ?" i was told blankly "yes" by 4 people, who all left the chat session seconds after saying "yes". Then 15 mins later, everyone was disconnected off the grid and i had to leave for work wondering if SL will ever function again or not.

Letting certificates expire is a very very careless thing for a company to do.

Lindens and others in their position say as little as possible (or use pre-agreed answers) sometimes because if they speak freely they know people here will disect their answers and rake them over the coals. And that is a guarentee.

Is it really down more than you can enjoy it? I'd say that since the beginning of this year we could estimate that SL has been down for a total of 1.2% or so, with it being less than 1% for technical errors like last nights.

I expect and accept a certain amount of frustration when dealing with a cutting edge system built by a growing startup company, even as a paying customer.

not to say that you can't let your opinion be known -- feedback is good

and, not to say that I don't have frustrations and puzzlement over some of the bugs and some of SL's design choices

but for me, the ratio of pleasure I get from SL compared to the frustration I have to deal with is very heavily weighted on the enjoyment side.

I am frustrated too, at having to download TWO new versions the same day, and troubleshoot the login problem. By the time I figured out how to get in the game the town meeting sim was full. (Maybe it was full at noon, I don't know.)

It is aggrevated by the bias towards implementing new features over fixing bugs.

We must tolerate a certain amount of this kind of thing in order for Linden to make progress, but the whole 1.6 release cycle has been a mess. (I wasn't around for 1.5, was that as bad?)

You have to cut them a little slack, because what they're doing is very difficult. That doesn't make it any more fun to waste half your playsession downloading and troubleshooting.

I wasn't around much for the 1.5 update but I particularly remember that 1.4 was a huuuge mess. I was pretty much home and on SL 24/7 at that time and was working on a big project which made the issues 10x more frustrating. The preview grid was only up for a few days before 1.4 was unleashed on the world and then the following couple of weeks were plagued by an average of one downtime per day as well as a good helping of sim crashes.

In my opinion, the fact that they only had the grid down for like 10 minutes last night while they fixed the login issues is amazing. Granted, we all wish that stuff didn't have to be done at all but I think that LL's ability to handle problems that come up has improved dramatically.

Just my perspective...

The only good thing about this last update is that the objects rez in faster. and i can zoom in on my character rather than it freezing up when i tried to do it before. Other than that i don't see any benefit from the new updates. Is it just me or do they update every month or every other month, and every time they update, we have hellish problems and more updates to follow it. Why don't they just do MAJOR updates 4 times a year, instead of all these little updates, that don't really make major changes ? :( Just very annoying.

They do. It's called point releases. Version 1.3, 1.4, 1.5, 1.6, etc.

They fix bugs within those point releases. These are patches. 1.6.1, 1.6.2, etc.

Under your model, bugs would go unfixed for up to 4 months at a time. Not good.
