Building a robot

In RL i am building a personal robot. It is going to be semi autonomous, which means depending on a switch i can make it autonomous or controlled by me. I am going to make it controlled through a program not RC. One part that is a must is video feed from a webcam. I am pretty good with LSL and I could definitely script a bot in SL. What is a language similar to LSL that I would be able to make a bot with? Also simple GUI design is a must.

Thanks

I'm also building a robot! It's gonna rock! When we're done we can make em fight and stuff... it'll be cool...

Lol seriously though, it is a PC based robot running a P3. I have had VB6, not .NET version suggested to me, but I dont really like it and I cant find to much info on it.

Hhehe sorry I couldn't resist :)

Sounds like a lot of fun -- I used to tool around with the old turtle robots way back when, I hope you get it up and running :)

Once I've completed my robots, they will build my time machine.

WTF is C3PO supposed to be USEFUL for anyway, besides whining? Stupid piece of scrap metal would be more useful recycled as a toaster. But even that would suck, because who would want to listen to a whining wussy toaster? Is he gold plated? If that's the case he should just be melted down into gold ingots. Help the economy some, and stop being so damn useless you stupid bucket of bolts! R2 is 1,000 times more useful than your tin man ass, and he's shaped like a salt and pepper shaker FFS!

Just kidding, I'm not really that lazy to just post links! haha..

MAYBE you'd like to try using Java. Best aspect is that it's free. Your main issue (not that it would be hard, but I don't know) will be figuring out how to interface with your robotic hardware. As far as a GUI Java's easy enough.

Most "robot kits" I've seen, I think, have software dev type stuff included don't they? I can't remember what language I typically see, but I think they do have something. I might be thinking of lower level/embedded programming though.

But a Java controlled robot would be cool.

Be warned though....it's quite a big jump from LSL to Java. Java is "the most bang for the buck" as far as learning curve and being able to do a hell of alot of crap, but Java is not "the easy language" by any means.
