Ok, I think this is of interest to at least 18 people, which is more than most of my posts. For the rest of you sorry.
Minutes of the town meeting, Feb 09, 2003
First we decided that there were enough people present and that enough notice had been given that we could make decisions for the town.
Next issue was the lag and sim crashes caused by the town. Possible remedies discussed included moving the town to a 4-sim corner or widening the roads, or doing nothing until the next version comes out. The final decision was to ask the Lindens what could be done. (see post in Technical Issues [to be made Monday morning]) Jack Miller mentioned that a Linden had said that particle effects were a major contributor to the problems and it was decided that rockets were EVIL and not to be tolerated in the town.
Next issue was the town name. Suggestions were proposed and after a runoff vote, "Lindenberg" was the winner (because it goes down in flames every night. ha ha ha)
It was decided that we should have a town hall, to serve as a museum, land registry, and central location for notices and bylaws and whatnot
I then suggested that voting booths be kept off the street, to avoid clutter and to prevent confusion as to what the booth was attached to. This was agreed to and further that I should ask Haney if we could have a smaller indoor voting booth. After the meeting I happened to run in to Haney, and he agreed to look in to it.
I then asked people to produce some hidden easter-eggs for the town, similar to my back-alley garbage cans, this suggestion was generally well received.
statements in favour of more park-space and trees were made and well received
If I missed anything major please remind me here.

I was going to buy a plot of land in what is now called Lindenburg...(I love that name ), but I was afraid of lag issues, etc. I really don't have a business yet, either..lol. But I have a question concerning the issue of rockets, etc in the town. Would it be possible to create a way to have a rocket-free zone, like setting a no-fly zone? I definately think that should be an option for the landowner(s)...the enforcement issue would be moot if people didn't have the ability to set off rockets in the first place. Having this ability would solve a LOT of problems, imo...what do you guys think? (Lindens, are you listening?...) J

lamps, forgot about the lamps

Also discussed at the meeting:
All the streetlamps in the town are owned by me right now. They have the be owned because they're scripted. Individually, they're not that expensive, but all of them together are quite a drain on my finances. So I asked if people would mind putting up their own lamps on their property.

About this rocket thing. Is there anyway to script the zone so rockets just won't fly?, and if they are being lauched from another sim script the zones so that if the rocket is being aimed into a no rocket zone it just won't take off? I have no idea if such a thing is possible.

Excessive particle effects contribute to server crashes (so I'm told). This is a bug that the Lindens need to fix.
Rockets, espeically remote fired giant rockets are a general nusicance. That people will keep firing them in and in to town after being asked by everyone not to is a social problem, not a technological one, and we need social tools like ratings and ignore lists to deal with them, not fine-grained control of what can and can't be done on certian land.
This is my opinion.

From: someone Originally posted by Maxen Underthorn Can we buy lamps from you? The streetlight is in the "Urban Elements" bundle, which is all public domain. I think it is called "Another Lamp v2.0". If you don't have the bundle, ask around or find me.

Unfortunately, some people don't like being told what to do... Firing rockets in populated areas may very well be a social problem, but that doesn't mean landowners shouldn't have the right to determine what can and cannot happen on their land. If I was a paying subscriber, and had to deal with rockets exploding on my in-town store or whatever, I'd be demanding more control over my property, such as prohibition on particule effects / explosions. However, rockets are a big part of SL...we just have to encourage their use in appropriate areas, like a non-laggy sim. I also think that since we're in beta, the Lindens are "testing" the servers' ability to handle the stress of particle systems in crowded sims...and what will have to be done before the release of 1.0. I guess we will have to deal with the sim crashing for a while yet...but at least we're not paying for it yet..lol.

Of course it goes without saying, if we do decide to move the town, it will then be called New Lindenberg

I think we should consider again the city being a no fly zone. Even if we do get the rocket situation under control (or "they" finally get bored with them) we will always have new people exploring, using jet packs and whatever else new comes along.. I understand the burden of then navigating the town so it is a real toss up. Maybe this is something that should be discussed & voted on at the next meeting?

If the av is flying the jetpack works less, if they are walking it works all to well.

I like how everyone is worried about rockets, when there are much worse things that could be made
