I just saw a run of the new HHGG movie with a few friends this morning, and as someone who hasn't read the books in over a decade, I enjoyed it quite a bit and had a lot of laughs.
There are some parts where the special effects are a little strange, but others where they are breathtaking. The actors were quite well casted, and the pace of the story was good.
I'm sure the more critically-minded will find flaws and complaints, but I think it will be a fun movie to most people, whether or not they've read/heard/seen the story before.
Make sure you stay through part of the credits. There's another guide entry about halfway through them you might want to see before you leave.

Yeahhhh I'm looking forward to seeing this one I adored the TV dramatisation from.. back in the mid 80's was it now ? phew time flies Martin Freeman is an inspired choice for Arthur Dent - the way he's played other roles seems ideal for the part. Is the theme tune the same as the TV series ??? That was an adaptation from 'Journey to the Sorceror' by the Eagles, if my unreliable memory serves... *Click, whirr, groan*... 'Life, don't talk to meee about life' he he

From: Kex Godel There are some parts where the special effects are a little strange well, apparently they deliberately created flaws in their visual effects... 'Imperfect' effects shine in Hitchhiker's

I enjoyed it and will probably see it again. It's actually quite faithful to the book for about the first 1/3 of the movie. Plenty of little tidbits for people to pick up on. The Guide entries are lots of fun.
