Don't know where to look but since starting yesterday everytime I play I crash my dsl connect. test showed 1.2 mbps for bandwidth. running 1 ghz athlon, 64 meg nvidia card, 512 mbs ram, running windows xp. Any suggestions? I would love to actually play for more than ten minutes without reboots and crashes.

That's a nice fast connection, I get 165k for speed (I"m supposed to get 380, but can't get it here at my house) Anyway, Have you:
1. downloaded the latest drivers yet? 2. is it a geForce or TNT? I think a TNT will still work though 3. do you have DX9 installed?
After all that, try lowering your settings, especially your connection speed. At the log-on screen, choose preferences, and set the speed to 500kbs or less, and your view area a little shorter. This will probably help. (sure hope it does)
Come to think of it, I'm gonna check my settings again now too, I've been crashing alot ;oP

Kat, What do you mean when you say that you are crashing your DSL connection? Are you losing your connection to the net (ie, do other net apps work?) or do you mean that SL is crashing and you happen to be using DSL?
Also, in the kowledge base (under the service and support), if you search on "crashes" you will get the knowledge base article with an attached .doc file full of helpful instruction about fixing Seoond Liife crashes.
Hope this helps! Cory

Just a note, yes the dsl crashes and you can't use any other applications until you restart it.
I think lowering the actual pull on the dsl line would eliminate a lot of future troubles for nebies. If you select 500kbs, it should be set to, like 300kbs
Then later we can have an "overclocking" of dsl lines for those who want to maximize connections. But this is still better than having a bunch of newbies crashing in the first few minutes, trying and trying and getting frustrated. It's ok for beta, but not when you go "live"
Just a thought, Love INgie

This happens to me also. Something happens when I am inworld, what I don't know, a packette storm or something, and it takes me a few moments to realize no on is talking anymore or that I cant move. And yes, I also loose my internet connectivity altogether.
Most times it requires a reboot of the dsl modem to reconnect. Sometimes I see the sync light on the modem resycning and then I see the activity light start going again and I never really loose the connection, it had just stopped dead in its tracks.
I thought my dsl modem was failing, I even contacted my isp. They want to help trouble shoot it, but it never happens during their contact hours, which is after 10pm pst.
My settings are all within the suggested anti-lag/problem range. I will check them again.
