Hello lifers, I invite you to check out my recently launched web site about virtual worlds: http://www.virtualworldsreview.comThe site specializes in "social" worlds as opposed to "gaming" worlds (yes I know there is a lot of overlap there but a gal's gotta start somewhere). Second Life is one of 18 worlds currently featured. You can rate and post reviews about each of the worlds, so come on over and represent SL by posting a review If you want to go directly to the Second Life page it's located at: http://www.virtualworldsreview.com/secondlife/Cheers and let me know what you think of the site. I'm planning on featuring SL as the "world of the month" in July if it does indeed launch in June as scheduled.

Checked the site, lotta good stuff there. I knew about Active Worlds already and a few others but alot I didn't know anything about.
AW is actually not too bad but unless you have a seperate 3-D program for making VRML objects, plus your own world which costs extra you can't build with your own made objects.
Your only hope is to find objects others made, put in the world, and if you don't find exactly what you want or need you can only piece stuff together to make things look right.
Active Worlds could have been done really well but it just falls short for me in alot of ways. Only nice thing about Aw is you can build wherever and however much you want in buildable worlds and it doesen't cost anything, no taxes, no light bill, and the lighting actually exists in AW pretty well.

Skyllar and others, Are you aware, or have/will review this 3D world system ( www.moove.com) ? I'd be interested in hearing from anyone who has tried this one. Thanks, - Mickey

I did a couple of years ago. It's OK, but I haven't been there in a long time. The way they set it up, is that everyone's machine is a host to the whole. So when you have people come over to your "rooms"/ house or whatever, you open them up to your own computer, which acts as a server. They do have security ... but I don't understand how all that works.
You can't customize as much as in SL, you dont really have a physics engine, you don't get scripting. It's really only a chat program, with some really funny quirks that are fun. It works very well for a social chat program... but I haven't tried it in a long long time and get quickly bord with chatting... at least chatting only. In SL, there is so much to learn from eachother, I can't see it ever getting boring!
