Problem is, it doesn't work. That is, when you try to put the texture into that about-land media texture box, you can't find it in the texture list. It just isn't there, as if it hasn't uploaded. Yet you can see it in inventory.
Here is the Documentation i got in the preview about how it works.. How to Use Quicktime: * Apply a texture to an object from your inventory that will eventually be replaced with the media stream. * From "About Land/Options" use the GUI to select the texture above. * Enter the URL of your media stream * Create objects you want to use as PLAY, STOP, PAUSE & LOOP (play forever) * Attach the following script (or similar) to each. default { touch_start ( integer total_number ) { llParcelMediaCommandList ( [ PARCEL_MEDIA_COMMAND_LOOP ] ); } } _____________________

Any old texture seems to work for me in that box, and still shows in inventory. I plan to make a gridded one to aid alignment.

That texture works fine for me. Dunno. Here's the order I did things:
1) Took a copy of the object "Media Player" from the default inventory (top one) 2) Pulled the "Movie Screen" object out of it 3) Entered a streaming video URL in my About Land - Media section 4) Pressed Play on the Movie Control and it worked then 5) I created a cube and simply drug the "*Default Media Texture" from the default inventory section onto the cube 6) Clicked play and it worked. Another thing I learned is if you wanted to make a large screen (more than 10m), place the Media Texture on all the pieces and align it while the video isnt streaming. If you are playing the stream you CANT align/size it. |

The media player rezes the screen when you hit play
That is if there are no other screens within a certain distance._____________________

Hi
![]() I'm interested in streaming movies into the game but was told that in order to do that you need not just a file server but a streaming media server to upload the movies to. Does anyone have any information on that or know where I can obtain info? Thanks so much and all posts are welcomed ![]() _____________________

I did a search for free (hey..I'm a cheap bastage) media server and the only one i found that looked feasible was Unreal Media Server. Does anyone know if this works? _____________________

Does anyone have any information on that or know where I can obtain info? Thanks so much and all posts are welcomed ![]() You can use any web (http) server to post a video for playback (so long as the video isn't real time) To play real time content, or to make static content properly "streamed" you will need a something capable to streaming quicktime video, and thus some special software. Either way will allow video to stream to the viewers computer. But your server (in both cases) will need a lot of bandwidth (the bit rate of the stream * the number of viewers + some grace for control messages). Streaming servers try harder to work in real time, (rather than http and other tcp communication which tries to play fair with other network traffic) Thus there is an advantage to using the special software, in particular if the connection between the server and host is just barely fast enough for the video. But lets say you just wanted to put an animated gif on some object in your land. Then you need only set your Parcel media to the URL with the gif, and this can be on any http server. (and since quicktime will download then display the gif, high bandwidth is not required) Another interesting feature is you can set how video works for individual players. This means a parcel is NOT limited to one video stream. (however any individual player will only be able to see one stream at a time) |

An interesting article on a possible free hosting service.

so far I ahve been impressed. first I hate quicktime so I installed quick time alternative which works wonderfully BTW
it plays almost any file format I toss at it. mov mpeg1 mpeg2 oddball avi formats (like what my digicam captures !) but I can not seem to get it to play the one format I REALLY want it to play. DIVX suggestions ? It plays it locally fine in quick time alternative but not from SL I get a grey screen and then a "peice" of the sound (1-2 seconds tops but I can tell its thw right sound) thats it nothing after that. ?? why divx ? I hate quicktime and dont want to buy it as I already paid or HAVE set up and am configured already for converting to divx. divx also looks great and can be made really small (about 75mb for 1hr of video and I bet I could go even lower for the small SL screens ![]() Any help would be greatly appreciated Chris Taylor (Nerys Zaius) http://www.nerys.com/ Chris Taylor http://www.zodiacreview.com/ |
