As some of you already know, Spellbound is in the final stages of preparing a large scale interactive "happening" involving London of 1905 and Neverland of Peter Pan fame... (see referenced announcement) /invalid_link.htmlThis has been made possible with help from the Lindens, and is the first time that they have committed support to such a project. Fey and I crusaded long and hard for the idea of Linden support for teams who have a cohesive plan and wish to create a temporary build for community purposes only. We hope that everyone agrees with us that the chance to do such a build without having to actually purchase or support this land for this time is a wonderful one. It gives credence to the idea that many more people without the financial resources to purchase sims can envision these large scale installations. Any thoughts?

I am 100 percent for this idea. I would love to see others work in groups and have a chance to create large scale projects. Not everyone has the chance to do them since they cannot afford land fees

I *love* this idea. I can't think of a more capable team with a more impressive resume to pull it off either. Congrats Baccara... and you better IM me for your next project! The Lindens supporting those who have PROVEN themselves to the community to help them CREATE things for the community is now coming of age. There are older players who have established enough of an "SL resume" to deserve this extra support. I can think of no one more deserving than the Spellbound Team. Regards, -Flip

Oz was the most wonderful creation I have seen in SL. I am wishing to see 1900 London very much and am so happy the Lindens see this as important to SL and donating the land.

Congratulations. If the Lindens can do this with multiple sims for people, I think Numbakulla may be a little superfluous to community requirements now. This was the idea behind my competition but if the Lindens will be doing it at their own cost on such a scale, I see little point in private funding doing the same thing.
Edited to add: I don't want people thinking that I believe this is a bad idea, as I believe it is a good idea. I'm looking forward to seeing Neverland, and it's good to see that community projects will get direct support from Linden Lab.

My personal opinion is that anyone who didn't think this was a completely wonderful idea must be mad, blind or totally devoid of taste. Or possibly all three. Not that I feel strongly about it, of course... Finally Baccara, Fey and everyone at Spellbound - who have done more for the community than almost anyone else - are getting the recognition from LL that they deserve. It's talented, selfless people like these that keeps me hooked on SL.

I think its a good idea. It can be very helpfull to people just getting started.
Moopf, I still think your idea is good as well, it never hurts to have two options in doing something.

I think it's a great idea!
Moopf,
Does this mean that you want us to take down the Numbakulla notices displayed on our land? I hope not. But if it does, please let us know.

Moopf,
Does this mean that you want us to take down the Numbakulla notices displayed on our land? I hope not. But if it does, please let us know. No, as I've started it will finish, I will see it through. Of course I suspect that this will now limit the number of applications that I receive, as competing against an offer made directly by Linden Labs is nigh-on impossible so we'll have to see what entries I end up getting. If it proves that this negates interest in the Numbakulla project, then so be it, at least the community has some outlet for non-commercial creativity either way.

Superfluous?
11-04-2004 04:10
Oh my Moopf, I think that your offer is hardly "Superfluous". Quite the contrary, I believe that anything one of us does that benefits the whole community is soooo important to the way we grow as a universe.
The more opportunities that we receive to expand on our creativity, the better... Both your amazing offer and the Linden's generosity in offering this new program will only serve to enhance our society...
Kudos Moopf, and a very big
HUG from everyone at SPELLBOUND
With love, Baccara

perhaps ll will open a small trust and use the quarterly interest to support these types of projects. then anyone will be able to contribute. the more money it has, and makes over time, the better. and it won't cost them anything except a wee bit of administration.
but if they're willing to pay for it out of pocket, that's a fabulous gift from them to the community.

Any thoughts? I think you have done here what some have tried to do in the past and got close but not quite (due to the part of the Lindens not the idea originator). I think this is a wonderful thing and I am glad to know people who will not give up when it comes to finding ways for the community to work with LL and bring benefits to all of SL. I also agree that it does not take away from Moopf's project because options are *always* welcome. I am sure that there will be some things the Lindens would still say no to supporting for whatever reasons and with Moopf's project they may have another avenue still. Kudos to you Baccara and Fey!! And I love the ideas of the projects themselves. Cannot wait to see them!! *hugs*

Spellbound has done many wonderful things for the community. Oz was an amazing adventure. I'm happy for you to have received this kind of support from LL.
However, perhaps I am the only one who is of the opinion that Linden Lab has already provided all the tools that we need in order to create a successful project. I believe the reason that they haven't provided support before now is because what they would really like to see is for their product to work the way that they intended.
My opinion is that Linden Lab should provide minimal support for personal projects that aren't organized by them. They can't support everyone, and choosing one group over another could reflect favoritism on their part.
If you can appeal to the community, they will support your project. They will donate at fund-raising events, and allocate land to your group. Linden Lab has already provided for this. It feels much better to be able to say that the *community* created and supported such a wonderful project, than to say that we were able to do this with the support of Linden Lab.
