Someone asked about addresses in Second Life. If you look at the large map on the board near the welcome area, you'll see some small green numbers. Each one corresponds to a local simulator region, and is the reference for that region's name (see map legend in top right corner). So for example, the welcome area is on region #8, named Natoma.

For the curious, the regions are named after alleys in San Francisco -- thanks to Phoenix Linden!

What do you think? We've talked about the possibility of letting the landowners in a sim region vote for a variety of different things affecting the sim. Naming could certainly be one of them.

That smacks a little of ... governance, I thought this was the great wild unknown? =P

But no, if there's actually a registry somewhere and it stays updated, that sounds really cool. I think I have to move though, most of my sim is linden owned =)

Address would'nt be a bad idea. It would be of course easier for a person to know the address instead of flying to it and getting lost.. but there is always landmark trading.
