A friend of mine observed the other day that, in spite of the number of things we can find to do in SL it seems that the one biggest timesink tends to be chatting and juggling IMs. It can get so bad sometimes that I sympathize with those who play alts just to escape the white noise.

since noone really talks to me outside of a small handful of people, I spend most of my time fixing mistakes ive made, things like unlinking my house, attaching large things to my body, and losing small things in the floor.

Hear hear, I can't even think of the times I've just blown off textureing for the day just to chat the day away with a ol pal of mine,

If you see me inert and staring into space, I'm compulsively rearranging and "tightening up" my Inventory files...again.
One innocent look at Inventory and I spiral into the abyss of process improvement through efficient file maintenance. Save me! _____________________

I spend most of my time creating things. I'm not a big chatter.

You could do like me. Build a complex scripted fountain hundreds of meters in the air, enter the wrong x axis and have it disappear off the edge of the sim. Took me 3 days to find it! But I bought a Scan Foo in the process and learned the wonderful feature called the "Mini Map", which doesn't cost a dime ![]() _____________________

All I do is build. I used to enjoy playing Bingo and Slingo a lot, but my favorite Bingo - run by SexyEyes Valkyrie - she is no longer running it. When I sit at others, I get itchy to work on a building project instead!
I used to explore more, but I'm sorry to say that I stopped doing that once running into push scripts became such a problem. It was already problem enough with my lag. I get the feeling that these aren't such a problem anymore (I could be wrong), but I rarely explore, cause - I'm always building! I decided early on not to go into entertaining due to the lack of game support for it. I was going to do Family Feud with Travis, just for fun, but about that time was the time my rep was going so much into the toliet I knew it wouldn't be worth it even to try. One night I made myself get out anyway, and ran right into my rep, so I came home again. This rep is a whole new thing for me, believe me. I would rather be famous for other things. In any case, it means socializing in SL, the way I have always socialized everywhere else, is pretty much a no-go. I used to enjoy things like Captions and Jeopardy and offbeat things like that, but I've become shy of all that, too. I will try to overcome this in the future. But, you know, I am human. I do socialize with friends I had before I came here, and, oddly enough, most of us are into building! (Those who aren't, don't want to play SL at all.) So a lot of our socializing is . . . shop talk, lol. Then there's the occasional wedding or what-not. And, ironically, I socialize some with some of those who disagree with me most on the forums. That part is nice. If I had gotten into entertainment, I would have managed to bring a lot more of my friends with me into this game, as we had that to keep us entertained in the other game, lol. But that's apparently not what God intended for me to do here. Fortunately, I love building. I'm just more alone here than I have ever been in any other mileau, and it is kind of odd. I'm very grateful for the friends I do have. coco |

I only joined a couple of days ago so I am usually wandering all over the place exploring. Either that or falling through the ground in my helicopter. Managed to buy some land today. Will probably be fiddling with building a house/random mess for a few days on and off heh.

My first thought was building but as I forget to set myself Busy I often end up talking to someone about it. That's on top of normal chat time with friends and neighbours, and answering IMs etc. Note to self: put on apron when building as a reminder to be Busy. Note to others: if I'm wearing an apron I'm Busy, unless I've forgotten to take it off. Oh hang it.

Chatting. With the group containing most of my friends. With specific friends. With my SL girlfriend. With new people I meet all over the grid. It never stops...
I'm Cindy's chatty friend. And boy is chat a timesink for me. ![]() Wendel |

seems that the one biggest timesink tends to be chatting and juggling IMs. It can get so bad sometimes that I sympathize with those who play alts just to escape the white noise. I agree, it does get tricky. On one hand you're happy to have people sending you messages but at times you end up feeling a tad frustrated because you can't do much else besides respond to them. Sort of a double edged sword. But if I had to chose, I'd opt for the blinking windows. As you've pointed out, you can have an alt if you need down time._____________________

My clothes are a mess...and there are so many of them. I am convinced the right inventory closet for clothes would make my SL so much better and the inventor rich beyond their wildest SL dreams. Dare I say...that the There wardrobe inventory is missed?

It can get so bad sometimes that I sympathize with those who play alts just to escape the white noise. ...except that now my alt has almost as wide a social circle as I did, so it doesn't help! _____________________

Sort of a double edged sword. But if I had to chose, I'd opt for the blinking windows. As you've pointed out, you can have an alt if you need down time.I have a few friends who start IMing me before I even get logged in, and then get upset that I haven't IM'd them back immediately. If they had something critical to say it'd be different. Usually they want me to come to their event or just chit-chat. I don't usually mind chit-chat, but I have a very select group of friends I spend time chit-chatting with and it's not a group you can apply for. You're either on it or you're not ![]() _____________________

I have a small group of friends on account of I only HAVE a small group of friends, lol. But whoever IM's me gets me. My problem is I play with my sound off, and when I'm building, I'm very immersed, and often don't even SEE the little IM window, and have to say, oh dear, when did you send this, I didn't see it.
Last night, a friend I like a lot, this happened. "Well I'm involved with some other people now," he replied when I did notice it. Awww... I guess I should start playing with my sound on. coco |
