Does Tim Guest own LL stock?

Not content with plundering Hamlet's stories for his Edge magazine columns, apparently he has a book coming out next year called Second Lives, all about us! I learned this from an article in the University of Sussex alumni magazine as he was a student in the same faculty as me graduating a year before I started. The article is mostly based on Hamlet's account of the WTC re-enactment controversy that occurred before I joined. The screenshots look more like a giant game of Jenga to me.

Anyway.... does Tim Guest own LL stock or is he just as unhealthily obsessed with SL as some of the users on this forum? Does anyone know if he ever actually goes in-world to research his stories or is it all just based on Hamlet's reporting?

Who's Tim Guest, and why would we be concerned with his (possibly nonexistent) SL obsessions?

Tim Guest wrote My Life in Orange, about his childhood in a commune led by Bhagwan Shree Rajneesh - where his mother left him alone on Earth while she hunted Heaven. He's a contract journalist who has written for a couple of British newspapers, and now writes a column for the British gaming magazine Edge, called "The Guest Column."

He does seem to be "obsessed" with Second Life, not surprising given his background and what he's written about, and I've sometimes wondered which one of us forum warriors here he really is.

(No speculation to follow.)

He's a contract journalist who has written for a couple of British newspapers, and now writes a column for the British gaming magazine Edge, called "The Guest Column." He covers online communities, and seems to be most interested in comparing online lives with real lives.

He does seem to be "obsessed" with Second Life, not surprising given his background and what he's written about. The proposed book, Second Lives, is not so much about Second Life, as about the double-lives that gamers and online community addicts lead - but I think Second Life will play a major role. I've sometimes wondered which one of us forum warriors here he really is.

(No more speculation from me than that.)

Interesting karma for the child Tim - being surrounded by machine gun toting goons who apparently "guarded" the ashram in the central Oregon town of Antelope. OR.

More Information At: http://www.slsolutions.org/

Unfortunately, as the CEO of Second Life's first PUBLICLY owned and traded company, I cannot reveal confidential share holder information. However, I CAN add to the speculation! :) Given the current population:share holder ratio, the odds of any one resident currently being a share holder are around 844:1.

So, while the odds of this perticular individual being a share holder are small, the possibility DOES exist! :) It is also important to point out, for the purposes of this speculation, that the odds against are diminishing more as each day passes! Exciting times! :)

Geez blaze - thought you were the forum monitor re: commercial off-topic Spam!

Must be you be slipping in your old-SL-aging...or are other motives at work?

I have no idea how much it cost, I'm not really inolved with it except as a share purchaser.

However, the technology is very sound. But, yeah, he could probably throw up a 50$ template and make it look expensive.

Hopefully he'll migrate it all in world, though. I think it would be more way cool that way.

I had two people seperately working on templates while I was coding the back-end. Neither was near ready to go by the time I was. I decided that my testing templates looked nice enough for the time being, and would also allow me to better gauge bandwidth requirements so I didn't need to scale back on graphics later. :)

Overall, with well over L$2,000,000 in shares sold (in under a month), it's been my experience that people don't really care what it looks like as long as it's making them money. :) That said, if anyone would like to have a crack at the templates, and understands the Smarty Template Engine well, drop me an IM in-world. :)

I would LOVE to replace or supliment the web-site with an in-world trading floor! :) Do you have any ideas on how to do this in a way that looks nice and isn't terribly primmy or delay-prone? If so, and if you'd like to help work on the project, let's figure something out! :) I of course extend the same offer to anyone reading the thread. If you're interested in this project, let's sit down and figure out how to make it happen! :)
