No, I'm not tired of Second Life. Far from it. I'm going to be around here for a LONG time. ^_^
But I'm tired of the role I've played in it for the past few weeks.
I'm tired of being a weapons dealer.
I'm tired of fueling an arms race.
I'm tired of the fact that the low end of my clientele is dramatically crueler than it was before.
I'm tired of people taking advantage of any mistake I make and using it to take my items and sell them as their own--something that's only happening with my guns.
I'm tired of people who do so thinking it's okay because I have so much money. Bobby Skallagrimmson, you are NOT Robin Hood. Don't ever tell me you are again.
I'm tired of this mentality (even among Lindens) that I'm somehow "winning" the game because I have the most money.
Most of all, I'm tired of not being able to spend time working creatively on my pet projects because yet ANOTHER person wants me to construct their own personal sniper rifle that is fast, accurate, deadly, and silent... just like the one I built for someone fifteen minutes before.
---
I'm bowing out of the weapons market. At least, the deadly part of it. I have no desire to create or sell weapons whose entire purpose is to kill another player.
So, the chainguns, rifles, machine guns, and pistols in my store will soon be taken out or not for sale. I will still keep the freeze gun, crossbow, SW laser rifle, and all my other weapons that are as much for show as they are for sport.
I will not be doing custom gun work any longer.
I will probably release script packs soon for the guns I am removing, so people can easily create their own weapons. These will be far more affordable than the guns themselves, most likely $100 or so, and will be completely open source.
X-Caliber will undergo a major redesign, something I had been working on as evidenced by the large box in front of the store. This arena will house a larger version of The Pit game that was in the basement of X-Caliber (before I had to disable damage because people kept shooting customers). The Arena will focus on guns and combat, while X-Caliber becomes a more general outfitters store.
I don't think this will terribly disappoint anyone; everyone who wants big kill sticks either already bought them or is making them now. In fact, they'll probably be thrilled to hear my scripts are going public. Perhaps the person who IMed me complaining because he was shooting from 500m away and not hitting his target can have his wish.
I enjoy combat, but combat is SL is nothing like it was two months ago. Perhaps with the Arena, I can bring some of the organized combat back, by controlling the entire scenario. But I refuse to help this stupid war. I will not help people fight back at Rygar, and I will not help Rygar lash out at everyone because he's an idiot.
I'm taking a step back from the whole thing. It's time some of the other people involved did as well.
---
If you need me, I'll be building things I WANT to build, and throwing huge piles of Linden bucks at the quest to build the anti-Jessie. To me, getting Suburbia running exactly how I imagine will truly be "winning" Second Life, and if it means I plunge clear off the leader board, then so be it.
Because it will never be about the money.

Even if you were... so? This game allows you to define your goal any way you want to. I don't care that you made a bundle on the weapons. What you do with the money you make also matters little to me. I value the fun that I have when you are around. I feel that you've been more than responsible to the residents of this game, so don't let people make you feel bad. Good luck with your city.

I just joined the beta, and have not installed the client yet (I'm at work). However, the post by Yuniq Epoch really made me curious. It seems to me that there really is a whole lot a person can do in this game. I mean..an arms merchant? Wow..pretty cool. I also want to say that while I have yet to play, I really like Yuniq Epoch stand on the issue and why (he/she?) is making a stand. With players like Yuniq Epoch around, I feel this will be a great experience. I can't wait to get in..and I hope my wife follows and tries the game as well.
Until I see you all on the inside, --SyyN

Welcome back Yuniq ;p. I feel the same way about the arms race, have turned down all requests for custom weaponry, and look forward to seeing what your ability generates now that it won't be focused on arms. Go go Yamamoto.
Your experience has been instructive though; it's shown SL that (imho unfortunately) the fastest way for a good builder/scripter to get rich is to fuel the war; bigger, faster, more accurate, deadlier. When personal shields work, defense will be insanely lucrative (and will undoubtedly generate a whole bunch of "that's not fair my gun is useless" posts).

Sounds like a LOT can be done in this "game". Is there someplace, aside from the PDF files, where a new guy can go and read about the potential of the "game"? With something so open ended, I am afraid it could be overwhelming to jump into the game (tonight, btw..for the first time..woo hoo!) and not really have a clue as to what can be done.
Making weapons? Making personal shields? Something called Cowballs? Sounds VERY interesting.

I'm not a ww2ol player, so no one needs to worry about me. From what I have read though, those guys have made the (is it the outlands?) almost unusable?

From: someone let me guss more new ww2olers acting like jerks? you should let one of the officers know if you see a n00b disrupting something...feel free to IM me From: someone I'm not a ww2ol player, so no one needs to worry about me. From what I have read though, those guys have made the (is it the outlands?) almost unusable? No, that is not true...it is getting a stress test, that's for sure, but still usable (remember, this is a BETA). having this many people join up (130+?) in a short time moving to one of the few adult areas will defintely make the game better once it's relased...too bad some people are just jealous

When you have an influx of 100+ people, almost converging on the same sim, it's going to suffer... wwiiolers or not. bear in mind rygar is usually somewhat biased against the wwiiolers. i have no idea what he's got against them, but i've seen plenty of noise tanks (his group) launching assaults on and generally harassing the wwiiolers. a few of the more immature wwiiolers have decided to retaliate, but most of them simply ignore the noise tanks when they're in no-damage areas, and dispose of them when they try to attack the wwiiolers on their own land. i'm not even a wwiioler, but i live in jessie, and have found it necessary to make an automatic defense system to protect my land, as well as a personal shield for when i wander off my land... *sigh* those are the dangers of living, working, and playing in the outlands... anything goes

Perhaps there have been a few bad seeds among the WWIIOLers who have found it necessary to harass people.
However, apart from the mass melee and confusion surrounding our first day or two, most of the harassment has been one-sided and against us, not by us.
Here's the situation. Jessie's one of the only damage-enabled areas. So when people want to get the trigger-happy bug out of their system, they go to Jessie and start picking off people.
Most of the residents in Jessie happen to be WWIIOLers.
We've dealt with this for two weeks now, with some people being more persistent than others. It's prompted us to develop defense systems (including an autonomous, person-tracking cannon I developed that takes out lone snipers who approach).

From: someone Originally posted by Davada Gallant Perhaps there have been a few bad seeds among the WWIIOLers who have found it necessary to harass people. Can you tell people here what has been done about these "bad seeds"? Has ANY repercussions come to them, like being rated negatively by all of the other, more respectful WW2OLers or possibly released from the WW2OLers? You have to admit, the massive influx of WW2OLers did cause a great disturbance to the SL populace, whether it be for better or for the worse. From: someone However, apart from the mass melee and confusion surrounding our first day or two, most of the harassment has been one-sided and against us, not by us. I suggest you talk to Leonardoe Murray, who was shot by certain WW2OLers over and over just because he was building his home in what was a damage-enabled area and not bothering anyone. Just because someone has a place in a damage-enabled sim does not mean that they should be shot just because of the location of their home. I wouldn't call that one-sided against you... these "bad seeds" started it, so blame them and not everyone else that doesn't support your thinking. Try policing your own group, and that might help a bit. I thought that people supposedly military-minded would have "rules of engagement", like not shooting someone who is not bothering them nor brandishing a weapon. From: someone Here's the situation. Jessie's one of the only damage-enabled areas. So when people want to get the trigger-happy bug out of their system, they go to Jessie and start picking off people.

We've dealt with this for two weeks now, with some people being more persistent than others. It's prompted us to develop defense systems (including an autonomous, person-tracking cannon I developed that takes out lone snipers who approach). I don't agree wiith this "war", but I also do not agree that WW2OLers are completely blameless... there are bad feelings on both sides of the fence. If the higher-ups in the WW2OLers would take more time cleaning up the ranks of troublemaking members than building "defense systems", it might help the situation that has occurred. This goes for the Noise Tanks as well, stopping unwarranted attacks just because someone just happens to be a WW2OLer. If you are interested, I would be willing to set up a summit between the WW2OLers and the Noise Tanks to resolve this situation, or at least set some guidelines for this conflict so as not to disrupt others who are in no way involved in it. Davada, I know that I have had some problems with you in the past and have said things out of the heat of anger... for that I apologize, and I wish that this whole situation can be resolved amicably.

*claps* Bravo Finally someone speaks the truth of the stresses many of us get even in SL. And we always thought games where supposed to be stress relievers, eh? Yunqi, u should get top ratings for the many things you have accomplished, and I as a SL users, would also love to see the many accomplishments you do while in SL. Keep up the great work. *Thumps Up* (we need more smilies....)

if a wwIIoler is giving you trouble feel free to IM me. i havent seen any trouble tho in a long while already. mmost of the trouble makers were just people who logged on a few times then got bored. rygar on the other hand seems to like taking jabs at us just about every post he makes,he sure is reflecting poorly on the noisetanks especially since he's the leader. but hey ive met alot of noise tanks most are nice folks,im willing to talk and maybe see whats bothering you about us rygar if ya want. hey rygar, how about you activate health on your land? you know make it a 2 way fight? we dont mind attacks, just dont want chaos. there are some regular raiders that basically shoot us all up everytime they come around, some we've been friendly with regardless.when you play wwIIol you learn not to have hard feelings against someone who kills ya. alot of the issues you guys have seen are gone, the griefers in our ranks left, they were here due to the hype, about 1 quarter of our guys dont play at all, they just logged on a few times then got bored. now we've got more of a civilized group,a few non wwIIoler's have moved into jessie,we dont kill them, tho the raiders that come around do. so if ya dont know us come around some time and meet some of us. for your own safety tho i suggest you dont hold up a weapon weve got a few people with a itchy trigger finger(for good reason). also im working on a large sorta wwIIol museum, its not done yet,but when it is it'll have images from the game and also pictures that well represent out forums and players.

yes, when i'm in jessie, i will usually carry my weapon but keep it at my side. if i see someone AIMING their weapon (i.e. in mouselook, ready to shoot) and they aren't a known ally, i'm likely to take fire. and i rarely miss. i used to never carry a weapon in jessie, but between raiders and rogue noise tanks, i've had to keep my eyes peeled and guns at the ready constantly
