Buy it. Both in "real life" and in this second one, entertainment costs money.

I found it; I wrote it in April. I don't know how to link to that post, so I will just copy it here in its near entirity:
--------------- This is precisely my problem, Xyle. I'm a basic player, too. Here is how I have made my money: 1. Playing trivia whenever I can find it. There aren't enough trivia contests. 2. Playing mind-numbing hours of Bingo. (Fortunately, I like Bingo.) I soon discovered some people who offer Bingo do not offer any of the prize money, but depend entirely on donations by the players. (I think that sucks, by the way.) So from the onset, I made it my policy to contribute to the pot, but only AFTER I win, and then, only 10% of my winnings, rounded up to the nearest $10. This is my policy in all contests involving pots. To do otherwise would make playing them a costly recreation I can't afford, rather than the living it actually provides. 3. Ditto Slingo. I would play Tringo, too, but I don't understand it. 4. Flying around to money trees. New players can do this for the first 30 days. Type "money tree" under search to find the places. The best time to do this is in the morning, USA time. You can get up to $25 a tree. (Unfortunately, I had to do most of my tree-flitting at night, when they were usually pretty stripped, offering only 2-3 bucks maybe, but I kept at it doggedly anyway.) 5. Joining Samauri Treasure Hunters group. Each Tuesday night, you can search for treasure chests on that property, and often get rewarded with $21 in the chest (or more). The lag is pretty rough there, but it's still fun. [I think they still do this; others sometimes do it as well.] 6. Look on the events calendar for "Free Slots" events. There is a place, geez, I can't remember the name right now, where the owner, Moonshine somebody - I'm blank on his last name, too - lets you play his slots free for an hour. Sit there and click away for an hour, and you can make around $80-100. (More if you hit a jackpot, which I never have.) There is also a money ball, and you can win that, too, while you're there. (Like about $100.) 7. [This one no longer pays money, so I omitted it.] 8. Playing Find-a-Word when it is offered at the Elbow Room. I once won that, too. Other people have contests for sexiest this and that avatar, or costume contests, but I don't enter those. 9. Never buy anything. Be an extremely picky consumer. I have shopped a lot, but bought only one vase (which is beautiful) from that Mexican town lot, unfortunately I forget the name of that place; and one wall hanging (which it turned out I couldn't use), at $20 each. And recently I bought an adorable beach set, with chairs, towel, umbrellas, and piggie pool floatie all packed into an adorable pink duffel bag, from Shagz Anubis, for only $135. That is all I have ever spent in this game, outside of the $1 freebie boxes. These are the ways I have made enough money to "buy" a plot of land at the Meins Residential Community, and to save up enough money to pay "tier" on it each week without getting too panicky. (I'm several weeks ahead at this point.) I get 472 prims there, and it is a wonderful place to live, so I am a happy camper. Even THOUGH I'm allowed to have only a basic membership. [This is now Azure Islands, and new members can enjoy a week free there.] My house is furnished almost entirely with free items, available everywhere, including, especially, Yadni's junkyard ($1 a boxful of free items) and also, geez, what is it called - the something-or-other Bazaar. It was apparently a place made by the Lindens, and you can pick up quite a few free things there. You can also get free items at many, many places in the world. (You should see my inventory!) Barnsworth Anubis and Ingrid Ingersoll have wonderful free furniture you can run across here and there. Then, too, some of the things in my house were gifts, or I made them myself. My wardrobe is made up entirely of free clothing available at the aforementioned places; though I have won some of it as prizes. Now, I have done quite a bit of money-making in the ways I outlined above. It's time-consuming, but it has allowed me to have the home I want. This is all preparation for the plan I have for the future, which is to build and sell, probably houses. For that, study at the Ivory Tower of Prims (I think it's called), where you guide yourself through floors of self-teaching. I have completed the first two floors, and built a number of objects for myself, including my front porch. [Now I have completed a whole house.] Because I think the only way to make money in the game if you are a basic member, besides winning it, is to make and sell things. --------- Hope that helps. coco |

If you are looking to make significant L$ in this game, I do not recommend focusing on contest and games, do those because your looking for fun. I suggest the old fashioned way, start playing around with the building tools, get familiar with them and learn how to build cool looking objects. Open a small shop and someone is bound to like what created and will want to buy it.

Those things I listed above were how I got a place to live and got started. Throughout, I practiced building. I just completed my first house.

SL is just like RL. If you want to make money in RL, what do you do? You either open a business or you work for someone else who has already done so. Same thing in SL. What are you good at?
If you're artistic, make things and sell them. If you're more strictly business oriented, play the land market or the money market. If you're a good entertainer, host and/or DJ events. If you're a good teacher, teach some classes. Whatever your particular niche is, identify it and get to work. Oh, and btw, I'd recommend reconsidering your "I don't want to pay real money" philosophy. In SL as in RL, you most often have to spend money to make money. Have fun, and good luck. ![]() _____________________
