SL Partnerships and land?

I was wondering how partnerships, or marriages, work in SL with regards to land ownership. Does any land either of the partners become held jointly? If not, is there a way to make it so that both partners can set a piece of land as their home, without getting a third person involved to make a group? I'm sorry if this has been asked before, but I couldn't find anything relating to it with a quick search. Thanks in advance for your responses.

They don't ... yet
LL have been promising they would for 18 months or more... but if you want to share ownership, you need a group, which means 3 people.

Partnerships + shared land ownership = some very interesting breakups

Same deal with current groups breaking up. Same drama, different name. :)

I hate alts except for necessity and this is one example. You and your partner make alts and then create a group with the two primary AVs and 2 alts. Everything will be split evenly between the 4 AVs and you can all set group land to your home.

One note to be careful of. If the relationship dissolves make sure that the land is removed from the group before it is dissolved otherwise after a week the land goes back to LL.

Good luck with that and feel free to catch me in-world if you need help setting up your home land under the group. :)

It's a plot to encourage polygamy.

When they implement this, maybe it'll come with an SL divorce court too. :)

But I'll have to disagree that it's the same drama with a different name. That's like saying splitting assets during divorce is like parting ways with roomies. The probability for drama grows drastically when those kind of feelings get hurt. Then there's also the risk involved when you dump a bunch of niave people and scandalous people in the same arena. "Everything was going fine for 2 weeks, but as soon as I logged off last night, he set our land for sale to himself, bought it, and dumped me! :( "

The easiest thing to do if you don't want to involve a third person is to create a group of you, your partner, and an alt account - it cost $9.95 one time, and is worth the flexibility and security of not having a third person to deal with. Note that once you deed land to a group, you both own the land - so either of you could sell it (though you would split the proceeds unless they sold it directly). This is important to understand when grouping with someone - they could sell your land out from underneath you. If you just want them to be able to set home, don't make them an officer in the land group you set up, just make them a member.

A lot of people in relationships in SL, buy land, set it to group. Then when they break up the other person sells all the land in the middle of the night, or even better releases it. So unless you are rock solid in this relationship or not very attached to the land, I don't suggest putting it in group.
