Once again I noticed that quite a few parts were missing from Yamato town. It seems Langoliers work faster than I'm able to reconstruct...

Maybe someone can explain those langoliers that deleting objects that have an owner does NOT give you any cash. The rez costs go back to the owner, NOT to the langolier. (This unlike deleting Public objects). Please, please, pretty please stop deleting Yamato Town.

To the Governor: Could you please send one of your officers thru Yamato town and uncheck Others can Modify/Move permissions? That'll stop the langoliers. Thank you.

To those with too much cash: Mind helping finance the reconstruction? There's a donation box at the shinji house. Your help is much appreciated.

They're fuzzy, and have rotating, whirring teeth... spooky

Harald, is it maybe time that some project was started to put a little life back into Yamato/Shangri-La? Was there ever any life in it? Sitting empty like that, it isn't doing anyone any good, and is causing you endless headaches. Maybe the many martial arts and anime - interested folks could help you out with it, since it would be a great place for events and themes.

OK, I have to ask. What's the official definition of a langolier? OED isn't being helpful, and google doesn't give anything I'd consider definitive.

As far as I can tell, "langolier" was coined by Stephen King for the TV miniseries of that name. A langolier is vicious ball of fur and teeth, whose purpose is to eat up all those things that exist beyond their intended time and place. "God's Janitors", so to speak.

They're a thing from a Stephen King story that was made in to a pretty good TV movie.

Some people go up in a plane, get caught in a storm and then when they come down, there's no one else around. Eventually they figure out that they're trapped in the past (or something) and, of course, there's no one there because they've all moved on to the future.

The Langoliers are big fuzzy blobs with sharp teeth that come and eat everything, as a sort of cosmic recycling force.

Forgive me if my recollections are somewhat off, I only saw the TV movie and never read the story.

EDIT: Nergal, you have the OED? In paper? If so, feel the warm heat of my jealousy-rays!

Oooh. That explains a lot. Thanks, Wednesday, Ananda! Maybe that's what happens to dust bunnies when they transcend their current plane of existence -- they evolve into langoliers. ;)

And no, I don't have the OED in paper, so you can stand down. Unless I'd get the same effect if I said that I have online access to it as part of w*rk? (feel free to toast me anyway -- I'm not exactly warm here, thanks to certain people who die if it's over 60F :D )

Yes, Nergal, as Wednesday and Ananda mention, a Langolier could be defined as:

"When Today moves on to Tomorrow, and Tomorrow becomes Today, Langoliers clean up Yesterday."

The concept could be helpful to SL, just think of all the prims that are laying around in Yesterday... Not that I'm comparing Langoliers with Liaisons, I wouldn't dare.

With the speed at which SL's world turns, people move faster than ever. Building come and buildings some. People long gone leave their creations behind. Imho, Yamato town is one of many places in this world well worth saving, more so now that the old town is no longer on the edge of the world, but directly across one of the most lively places to date.

Reconstrustion has started. Once done, there will no longer be a risk of deteriorating and decaying until the Governor says it's time to move on.

David, I'd love to see more life come to this place, but as I mentioned before, I'm no expert on the culture. Let me know if/when you have ideas.

Thanks all for your interest and support.
