Broadcasting - Live Stream

Heya,

I'm thinking of streaming a live broadcast and linking it to SL. haven't figured it out yet.
3 years ago i installed Sam2 Broadcaster, with some help i finally had my stream online.
From what i remember, i ran the Shoutcast GUI client first, then the free shoutcast server,
Next i fired up sam2 and turned on sam's mp3 encoder, played my mp3's and we were broadcasting.

Since joining SL i fired up sam2 again and had an error "no source connected"
Which i think means, i need that shoutcast server again, but it's not free any more?
If anybody has any other info on running a "free" broadcast i'd much appreciate the details.

I don't have any land, after visiting club Gravity, i was thinking, couldn't i have an
object in my inventory like a club with a live feed/broadcast? how would you do that?

If i can not get Sam2 working again freely, i'll delete it and look for something else,
Actually, i did a search tonight and found peercast.com Could that work?

Well if any of you know what i'm waffeling on about and see what i'd like to achieve in SL,
I'd be delighted to read about how you set your streams up and then added your live feed
to an object that can be pulled from the inventory :) or something like that.

It's definetly not a first, just something i'd like to put together, I thought this was cool;

A lot of DJs don`t have much money to spend on things like this, and a lot of them play
some really good music. Some DJs who start getting popular give up when they find that they can`t afford to broadcast any more (and pay broadcasting fees to the RIAA etc.) and some of them have to resort to charging their listeners because of this.
Peer Cast allows anyone to broadcast to an unlimited amount of users, for free! (well nearly free, they still have pay for their ISP connection) The cost of the bandwidth is spread out evenly among the listeners using the spare bandwidth that most of them don`t even need. P2P applications like Peer Cast even helps ISPs (although most don`t acknowledge this) because it's cheaper for them to route traffic among their own users than it is for each user to fetch his own data from an external source

If i could set this up, could it be used?

later thanks!

You need a shoutcast/icecast etc server to broadcast to.

Normally people buy space from a commerical provider because of the bandwidth that running a radio station needs. You could run a station from your cable/dsl but you need to make sure you have lots of upload bandwidth.

So what im doin is runnin it on my local machine to a network server? through the client..

I set up the peercast client and added the dsp plugin to winamp,
My stream shows on their yellow pages but i haven't been able to open the url
in windows media player yet, which would be great, as i need the url for use in sl right?
Peercast can act as a server like shoutcast, they have a sam broadcaster how2 section.
You run the peercast client, it connects to the peercast network.
Then run winamp, hit ctrl and p then click dsp/effects, start the dsp, then play an mp3 in winamp,
or sam(they have a section for adding a peercast encoder for sam)..

With Relaying Another Stream you use the Broadcast Page to enter the relay info
How2 Peercast Relay http://www.geocities.com/peercast_listener/how2relay.htm

If your Streaming Direct then you only need to enter info in the Encoder and point it towards Peercast
How2 Peercast mp3 Direct http://www.geocities.com/peercast_listener/how2mp3.htm

Trial and error and maybe a positave result! I gotta get thatr url!

The important thing here is that streaming music (and video) in SL is done via a URL embedded in the land properties, NOT in objects.

If you don't own land it matters not what broadcast software you have or whether its p2p or broadcast packets.
