Hi all
I just signed up as this looks like a really interesting beta to be in, although from what I can gather it is going 'live' soon anyway.
My reason for posting here is to ask if the card details I gave during the sign up process was charged for anything, I have searched the FAQ and cannot find anything about it, so I am hoping someone here will be able to enlighten me!
I tried logging in, but it appears the servers are down - my local time is GMT, so what time will they be back on? (my calculations are 20.00GMT - is this correct?)
Thanks in advance, and sorry if this question does get asked loads!

naw, your card won't get charged until you agree to pay for the retail version. the card helps to make sure you don't make 30 accounts during the beta just to benifit from the lindenbucks you start off with in a new account. While i'm pretty sure they will let you have multiple accounts, it doesn't make much sense to let users have a whole bunch of accounts for free during the beta test, especially when it could mess with the balancing of the economy

Ah I see - so when does beta end then? and how do I decide to either continue or cancel the account? - from what I can see the account management is limited to changing of passwords?! - is that correct?
Sorry for the n00b questions, but just want to make sure that's all!
Thanks for the reply.

Not very n00bish questions, we just learned yesterday that they plan on going live some time in June, then we gotta start paying. I'm sure they will ask first, and the account management tools will grow to reflect the fact that we will be paying. Watch for announcements!

We won't charge anyone automatically. We will give you a chance to sign up for commercial release later on and offer you two weeks to decide.

Mortice They servers are up between 12pm-12am PST .. to convert that to your time you can use the time converter on my site: http://www.tagyoureit.org/extras/time.htmlI think I gave you the right times ... it's up here 3pm-3am EST ... yeah so 12 - 12 PST.

If it makes anyone feel better about this, we're not actually keeping your card numbers at all - just a unique MD5 hash generated from the card data. This way we can check to see if the card has been used before, but there's no way we could charge it even if we wanted to. So there won't be any accidental billings.
When we do give the beta residents to option of converting their accounts, we'll put up a new account information page with control over alot more stuff - including the ability to update your card information, change your subscription plan, cancel your account, some other stuff. In order to convert to a paying customer you'll have to re-enter your card information.

Thanks for all the replies everyone! After all that, my GFX card is not up to the job (Radeon 7000) and the client keeps crashing when it is starting up (gets to downloading inventory and crashes!) Dang!
