One night Stands....Casual short term relationships...or Long Term Committment? Which works best in SL?
Relationship turnover in SL seems higher than RL.
Some start out as a one night stand and end up hooked on the person they shared a sexual encounter with. Does being sexually intimate right away ruin the chances for a relationship to develop?
It seems impossible to develop a serious relationship and committment from a one-night cyber interaction. One night stands become incredibly intimate right away before you know the other person at all. You become vulnerable to someone whose name you may not even know.
People have one night stands for sex, or because of loneliness, or just to play around with as many experiences as possible. Which works best in SL?

Many of the relationships i have seen in SL are basically One Night stands that last a month.
People tend to be "in love" after less than week, and the "spark is gone" after 3

To answer the original question which has been derailed yet again by some posters... Well, one shouldn't ask what works best for SL. It should be what works best for you. It really depends on what people are looking for. Just like irl you can have a one night stand with whoever or you can find someone who you can have a companionship with. I haven't tried the 'av sex' aspect of it because I'm more interested in just enjoying the company of my Partner, whether it be building, shopping, talking, or just hanging out with friends etc. I have never had a one night stand in SL or rl. I respect myself more than that. The feelings have to be there for me. I have seen too many friends regret what they have done to ever go down that road. Plus irl there are so many things to consider: disease, pregnancy etc. This is SL and there are a lot of people who do things here but would probably never do them irl. So having a one night stand or being a 'player' so to speak gives them the freedom to explore things in a way that they either can't or won't irl. Again, it's really about the person and what they want and are looking for. It shouldn't be based on the SL relationship 'norm' which for some people seems to be...'Hi we've known each other for 2 days, I love you more than life so lets get married and have pixel babies' and in about 2 weeks they are with new people singing the same song. I have been with my Partner for 5 mos and am very Happy. I was very fortunate to find someone caring with a sense of humor who likes me for me and treats me with the utmost respect. I wish that for everyone...everyone who wants it.
