Hi Dianne,
I am the founder of the New Citizen's Inc (NCI) group. Here is the description of the group:
This is a group formed to welcome new folks to Second Life at the Welcome Area
?Help them with any questions they may have, and offer support in their endeavors in SL.
Below is the Charter:
Noobies Helping Noobies; Midbies Helping Noobies;Oldbies Helping Noobies:
*This is a support system for those who are new to SL.
*Helping New Citizens find out and implement what they want to do, be and/or accomplish here is our prime focus.
*You can be new for as long as you need to be and avail yourselves of what we have to offer; and we also hope that you can in turn teach/help/encourage others who come along after you.
*We help new folks with building, scripting, clothing design, selling, events and jobs. You do not need to be a member of this group in order to get help, recieve the NCI Welcome pack or avail yourselves of the expertise of our helpers

Likewise you do not need to be a member of this group to get on the notecard list of helpers.
Robin Linden's forum signature has a quote from Mahatma Gandhi that says:
"You must be the change you wish to see in the world."
That is the essence behind behind my desire in creating this service for all in SL

I DO speak with those who express the desire to help folks at the welcome area. There are times when I'm able to give a more thorough "interview" and times when I am not. I know that we are all adults here, and I expect folks to take the information given and to use their own judgement.
We are also all human beings, and while I have almost daily interraction with new people coming into SL, its also my "home" and I've made several new friends while going about my "duties" for the NCI.
I'm not sure what was creepy about that situation, but if anyone has any specifics and knows what was said - please PM them to me here or IM them to me inworld.
My group has been around coming on 6 months now, and I haven't had any complaints about the Helper's behaviour. That being said, of course I'll look into this situation; but as I said I'd need more information.
SL is a place where we create the content and the goal of my group was simply to do that in the area of helping new residents get a good start in SL.
NCI also sponsors a weekly Noobie Show & Tell, the Helping HAND - the Noobie Yellow Pages, and has rented land for with sandbox, event area, freebie & 1 dollar store and helpful information for Noobies.
