... and for those who don't know what the heck Burning Man means, either. What is this Burning Life thing? What are you supposed to build? What is the idea of it? How many prims do you get to build it? What difference does it make regarding M or PG? What is the meaning of the four themes? Do people spend, like, 24-hours a day building whatever it is? Is this a contest, or more like an exposition fair? coco

Basically, and exposition of creations, too immense for the neighbors or prim intense for the average property owner. Lots of prims are allocated, much like the winter festival.

From: someone ... and for those who don't know what the heck Burning Man means, either.
Burning Life is an homage to the Burning Man festival that happens every year in Nevada somewhere. Like a woodstock for artists. It's non-commercial. Just people making art for the sake of art. Then after a few days, they burn it all up. The actual Burning Man has a theme every year I think. But the Burning Life in for SL has none. Build what you want. I built an artpiece last year, some folks made buildings, whatever floats your boat. The prim allotment varies. Last year, there was a plot for each person. Some folks share plots. Last year think it was a 3900 plot but three times the prims for it. Nothing is supposed to be built. Let the imagination go wild. But no selling stuff. The four themes are the same as it was last year. Not sure if was too for the year before, but it doesn't mean anything really. The first day I got my plot, I stayed there for days til I finished it. But I didn't see folks in the sim 24-7. Jellin's suggestion for condensing the plots more and perhaps just having everyone share the sim, sounds more interactive. Not a contest. Just a chance to build and imagine. * is it weird for me to think how cool it is that I asked this question last year and now I'm answering it?! I freaking out, man. Anyhoo, Hamlet has some articles from the ones done last year. Don't have the links on me but you should have a look-see if you have the time.

What is this Burning Life thing? An expression of artistic talent concentrated in one area for a brief time
What are you supposed to build? Whatever your heart tells you What is the idea of it? It's a big hippy art gallery How many prims do you get to build it? Should be in Jeska's thread - normnal 1/16th of a sim's worth, I think What difference does it make regarding M or PG? If your heart tells you to build a naked woman, you should build it in M What is the meaning of the four themes? I'm no art student, but googling the terms may help you. Do people spend, like, 24-hours a day building whatever it is? Barbarra Blair was always on last year whenever I was building. I spent 6-8 hours per day, and very little SL time on anything else. Is this a contest, or more like an exposition fair? No voting, no prizes. I'm sure the bloggers amongst us will be talking about their favorites. I was overjoyed to be one of Hamlet's featured builds last year.

Thanks for all the explanations! Sounds like something I might want to put myself in the lottery for next year.

From: Lash Xevious The actual Burning Man has a theme every year I think. But the Burning Life in for SL has none. Build what you want. I built an artpiece last year, some folks made buildings, whatever floats your boat. I thought I heard that it (more or less) followed the theme of the real life festival for that year? Is that not the case? I don't recall hearing the rules last year, and the current announcement doesn't say one way or the other, so maybe the person who told me that was mistaken.

Well, I have no idea what the real life festival's theme was last year, and yet I built in Burning Life - so either I missed the message and was waaaaay off, or the person who told you was mistaken!
