Vendor Difficulties

Does anyone else have a consistent problem when using vendors for their merchandise that there is a daily record of people making incorrect payments to the vendors?

This seems to me to be a daily occurence, sometimes even happening multiple times on the same day and/or by the same person, regardless of the type of vendor used. In the past year I have used three different vendors from three different creators and all seem to have the same problem. Its always the case of seeing payments for $1, $5 or $10 going into the vendors and then being refunded. Since the cheapest items i have in vendors are $25 and $100, I find this confusing. Are people just clicking the auto buttons when they have to manually enter a payment amount or are they testing the vendor to see if it will give them the item for the improper and cheaper price? The thing that makes me mention the latter is often I will see someone attempt to buy a vendor item for $1, yet never actually buy the item for the proper price. It makes more sense if someone enters $155 instead of $150.

I know there are Help notecards around about opening boxed items that are circulated to new players. Is there any documentation about using vendors on the consumer end? Its not that it is a huge problem or anything, but consistently day after day I notice in my account history erroroneous payments. I know that I am not the only one having these problems. Most vendors seem to be straight forward... you click buttons...it tells you how much the item is...you pay said amount. So I am not actually sure where the confusion lies in purchasing items from vendors. Any ideas?

If I had to guess, I would guess it is probably people looking for incorrectly coded vendors that will give an item for any amount of cash...

Its fairly easy to pick out the ones who accidentally put the wrong price in because it is almost always followed up by them purchasing the item for the correct price. The ones I find confusing are when someone pays $1 into a vendor a couple of times and then never attempts to purchase anything else. Are they giving up or just trying to see if they can get something for free? That is the quandry I am left with. Normally when the vendor itself is malfunctioning I will get sent an IM from the customer stating the problem. If it is a case of people trying to scam the system, then I think not only merchants, but vendor creators need to be aware of this problem so as to make sure that their vendors have a fail safe in them that cannot be cracked.

I wish there was a way to keep better track of the whole account history. I can see who bought what and where in my account history. But, tracking refunds, if people got there items and that sort of thing is another story. Even the account history on the website is a bit fuzzy. All you will see is so and so bought an object from you for $100 or payment made by you for $25....

Hi Jennyfur,
I think this is sometimes people trying to find out the price of the item. I have come across vendors which either don't talk when they are supposed to, or talk once and then refuse to repeat the cost information that they have already given. I have from time to time paid the vendor any old amount in order to find out the cost of an item.

Obviously you may have a combination, depending upon how many clients you have...some paying the machine to get it to say how much an item is, who don't then buy it because it is too expensive, some who are on a fishing expedition to see if they can trick the vendor, and some who just type in or pay the wrong amount.

I'd be surprised is many people were out to trick you...apologies if I have ever paid and then had refunded any money.

When I briefly took a stall in the Gigas mall, I played pingpong with the rental machine for quite some while...sending them money....getting it back again...sending it again. No idea what I was doing wrong, but it was me. It usually is :-)

Rental machines are odd because sometimes i have to pay a specific amount. If the rent is $50 per week and I pay it $125 I'll get refunded or if you try to pay more than the specified maximum rental period it will refund you as well. They do seem to be programmed differently depending on the mall owner and vending system itself. Then there are some that you can pay any amount and its fine.

Honestly, I really hate to think that people are trying to scam the system to see if they can hack the vendor in order to getting something for free or for the incorrect price. It does happen though. When it happened once in awhile I figured it was just accidental, but now that it seems to be more frequent, it does make me wonder. In any case, I think it is a combination of all of the above that you mentioned.
