If I implemented this idea, would you participate?

I've finally finished coding on a script which acts as a filing cabinet, where only certain people can access the contents of an object. Doesn't seem like too much of anything special yet, but here's my new idea... I want to create a "Scripter's Guild", where the following procedure would occur: 1: Random person gets idea about what would be a cool script, or wants a specific script, but has no script experience and nobody to pitch the idea to, or a place to find out how he can get his specific script. 2: Random person goes to the Scripter's Guild office (which may not be too extravagant, as scripters are probably minimalists, not requiring anything more than open land and some concentration to get the job done) and then, through a note card, write what his idea is, or what they want, and then drops that note card into the "Scripter's Inbox". 3: Situation A: Scripter's Guild members would occasionally look in the box and read the notecards, perhaps making notes on them for other scripters, perhaps what they believe the script should sell for ($$) , perhaps how long they think it would take to script such a thing, and then re-submit the note. Situation B: The scripter could take on the challenge that the notecard has put upon him and then simply IM the person who submitted the note, offering a price on the script (when necessary). Situation C: The third situation could occur, where the notecard was simply pitching a cool idea, and the scripter can take on the challenge of scripting it, simply because it's such a cool idea. So, if this system was in place, would you participate in it, as either a submitter or a scripter? If so, I'll announce when the system comes up, and how to participate

I would definitely participate -- got a lot of ideas buzzing around the noggin (can't code worth jack yet), but my only concern would be what, other than common courtesy and resident decency (of which I am happy to say is an abundance here) would prevent a scriptor from simply developing the idea and never telling the person with the idea, then later claiming it was their idea all along.
It may seem somewhat petty, but there are people who are known for thinking, others who are known for implementing, both should get equal credit as far as "reputation" goes (not reputation as in SL Reputation, but in a social sense).
[edit: It may also seem to defeat the purpose, as a person in need of a script is going to pay for it in either case, but there's a certain human aspect that needs addressing]

How is this different from the bajillion scripting groups already in existence? Your guild thingy sounds like the exact same way a few friends of mine have been operating since beta.

From: someone How is this different from the bajillion scripting groups already in existence? It's different in that the non-scripter has a place to go to and drop in a note -- without needing to figure out that group "LSL Minions" is a script group. Or having to figure out, after doing a search for script writers, who actually *writes* scripts. They just deposit the note and wait (or can search further for help, which increases the chance they might find some!). Sounds like a good idea to me. Boso

Yeah, what Boso said. Just because I can search for people who marked the checkbox in their profile as to being a scripter, doesn't exactly mean they know what the hell they're doing. On the other side of that coin, people who really do know how to script might not like being randomly bothered by IMs, so they keep that checkbox unchecked in their profile. My idea keeps it ordered, so the scripter can script when he wants to and also so the asker can be assured that he's asking good scripters.
Plus, I've never known of an actual scripting group in-game. I mean, every group I've ever seen was more than just scripty scripty, there was always more to it. This group is just scripting, period. (Building objects is not prohibited, but it's not encouraged either)
Finally, Kit Phaeton, thanks for pointing out that aspect of this idea. I think that is somthing that the submitter of the idea has to keep in mind, along the lines of a "submitter beware". But really, I would want to keep this scripting guild close enough that I know we can trust the scripters not to be dumb enough to take credit for an idea.

It sounds good but i agree what about the person whos idea was used. what about making it more like a union hall where scripters are registered and take jobs only through the guild hall. I personally think that would be the best way to do it although scripters are pretty well paid as it is, it definatly could streamline the process of finding a quality scripter who has time to do your project. So of course scripters with high hours would have seniority as they are more likely to be online and availible for work.

The best part is some scriptors are good in one or more areas but really stink in others (dats me at times lol).
The combined knowledge of this and other scripting groups could have the potential of smoe great finds/discoveries/ and just plain cool stuff.
But as far as the idea aspect, I'll publicly submit the first idea for this as to get the ball rollin on this.
I don't know this area of scripting but, if there was a way to track who submits, via who clicked. And a list generated via script or manually on who recieves the idea.
Then this gets a file marker that is retrievable if need be in the future that shows how's idea it was and who recieved it.
Any expansions on this are welcome.

Charlie thanks, you basically covered an area that I had thought of before but forgot to mention. The greatest thing about the Scripter's Guild would be the fact that you can be proficient in only one area, because everyone else would even out the rest, thus the guild has the widest range of knowledge possible And yes, your idea is possible, but without llWriteToNotecard() it's a messy process.
