I watch a TV series made in Halo, and they don't have anywhere near the opportunity for sets/props/customization there that you do here. I don't even like playing the video game, but I get a kick out of the characters.
I think if it was well scripted/acted/voiced an SL based show could be a great creative outlet. So have you got plans for an SL movie wuvme? |

It's not the medium, its the story. A good story, done with proffessional camera work and editing and just about anything can make for an interesting show. I think the real potential of SL is in using it to rough out and shoot quick and dirty screen tests and to make pitches for scripts. Imagine writing a movie script and handing in a visualization of the script in SL to submit with it.

Wuvme, the THERE movies I have seen were hilarious. If a group got together to make a movie in SL that was half as imaginitive I would SO watch it

yes i loved the there.com movies...
One big problem with SL movies is the "Streaming" of the movies... Why is the there.com movies sucessful? 1- voice chat 2- avatars moved mouth 3- they had browsers within the game _____________________

it's a great idea.. i voted "more details" due to what's been mentioned already. it all hangs on the plot. that's the core of ANY story, regardless of the medium.
i say, have at it! i would definitely appreciate catching a movie made within SL. not to mention, Kathmandu had an excellent point. using SL as a visualization of a script would be a phenomenal tool! it's got me thinking... just let us know if/when something's coming out, k? _____________________

You might want to see these old clips. My favorite is Wheelchair Follies featuring a soundtrack of the song "I Can Fly" and avs in wheelchairs leaving high places and not flying too well
OK, it's in bad taste but it's funny.[edited to add] Primatives in the Wild is classic too. (They misspelled Primitive). When they zoom out on the world map I'm pretty sure that was the whole thing, but it was before my time. _____________________

1- voice chat 2- avatars moved mouth Having people do voiceovers for the video afterwards could get you around this issue. The un-synced mouths would be a little annoying, but people would get used to it. G4 used to have a tv show "Portal" that was more or less clips from inside MMORPG's that they voiced over. In most of the games they used for their video (SL included) the mouths didn't move and after a while you no longer noticed. Plot really is gonna be your make or break point. A good story with a simple backdrop is always easy to enjoy. |
