I hate to complain - but i am going to have to now.
After waiting patiently for the new release - not moaning about not being able to get in etc etc.
I finally start up SL and it says new release available - you must download this to use the system
So like a good person - i download it and install it even although it says it is already installed.
Start up SL and it says a new version is available etc etc
So i do it again and reboot after it has finished this time.
Start up SL and a definite feeling of de-ja-vu is settling in now - There is a new version of SL available you must download it etc etc ad nauseum.
Is the new fix actually there - or is this a way of keeping us off until Lindon's sort out the problems ?

It's quite alright to ask, Adriana. Better to know, right?

OK,
Coming from an IT background myself ( 20+ yrs Unix and Oracle Administration ) I can understand that a few thousand people attempting to log on to a processor intensive package would stress a server, but surely the disaster recovery plans in place ( ? ) dictate that your server should be able to cope with a peek load of consectutive users attempting to log back on to the system after an outage returns at peek usage time ( I believe when I first tried it was 8 something PM in the USA - surely a high user time ). If your server cannot cope with this load during the disaster test then you plan ahead and attempt to resolve the problem with either optimized scripts, upgrades to the server, or implementing some sort of staggered entry system where you bring the sims back on one or two at a time and display an appropiate message to the user stating something along the lines of : "Due to the recent system down time your home sim is currently unavailable - Please try later" or to adopt the walt disney parks approach "You are currently in the queue to enter the system - the current wait time is approximately 11 minutes - please wait or try again later"
The message "awaiting response please wait" is basically annoying to all but the most patient and un-curious of users.
As for the system load causing the script to repeatedly offer a download of the same software - I find that somewhat hard to swallow - sorry.
But I am in now and shall stop complaining - sorry to have been a pain - but I have seen these situations in larger servers and watched the resultant mutiny grow among the user base unless a suitable explanation is offered.

If you ever get in an Install Loop, where it keeps telling you to download new ones, over and over and over, and the downloader goes REALLY fast. This usualy means you have a previouse update in your cache/temp files and need to delete it. Which you can do by going to, in IE: Tools - Internet Options - Temporary Internet Files (on the first tab) Delete Files, this will clear out temporary files such as the installer. You can also access the Internet Options from the Control Panel. Not sure if thats what you meant or not, but kinda sounded like it, but apparently you fixed it or something already. So fun free information for anyone!
