I got impatient, so, about half an hour ago, I went to the site, just by guessing. I downloaded it, and installed. A few minutes ago, I was able to login. Boy oh boy, its different! New ground, flying feels a lot different, a LOT less laggy, very nice new features, such as in the find menu. You can now search for not only people and groups, but places and more! NICE! Its just very, very different. I was told by a Linden to log out until tommorow, so, I was only in for about 3 minuntes. However, its fun. Good job, Lindens!

I cant wait for the first 1.1 sim crash. PAR-TAY, PAR-TAY, PAR-TAY! Let's all get together right smak in the middle of a sim and see how much it can take. Then we'll make a script to rez a 300m tower of hollow-cut rotating tori contantly doing setText and setTexture... randomly =) Then we climb on top of it and make it physical. MWAHAHAHAHAH! |

No need to stress the physics collision stuff since nothing has changed there. However testing how lag scales with avatar density would be helpful, as would any new recipies for crashing the servers.

LOL I remember that one... It never ceases to amaze me how fast a sim lags even with a single Hollow Cut Torus. I was in Slate earlier, with Cricket, Nick, and Falchion, I dropped a 10-meter HCT from 512 meters and the game froze for a few seconds, then the HCT went offworld. Maybe the server failed to process the collision on time? Something like that. Anyway with about 8 HCTs like that we could barely even walk. Its not like HCTs are very useful anyway, and hardly anyone ever plays with physics outside the sandbox these days.

I just wanna see if I can cross a sim without my attachment scripts taking 5-10 seconds to catch up.

Ok, so, now that its been up for just over 40 minutes, what do you all think? I like it, however, the bugs aren't fun. The bugs, mainly, the name bug. It appears that Linden Lab didnt correctly do the databases, so, any objects you have in your inventory can't be rezzed, and your avatar's textures may not load, and your avatar name may not appear, or be very corrupt. Corrupt, as in "as dafs2 38 >T"

Yeah, but those aren't a 1.1 issue I'd guess, just a quick and dirty copying of our stuff from 1.0 issue.
My two cents: bump mapping is cool shininess is COOL and particle systems, though difficult to learn the tricks of, are ULTRA COOL. |

Hooray for permissions on textures!
I must admit I didn't have any lag even with the hippo pyramid. The particle effects are really neat. Hopefully we'll be able to add our own bumpmaps... |

Big thumbs up for the new particles, no modify on rez objects, permissions on textures/scripts. Shininess is sweet. I can't wait to play more with the new LSL functions.
Bump system is flickering a lot. Map system is cool but i kinda like the old minimap. Overall, nice improvement. Just hope the performance and server stability gets better. |

Weird...
In addition to several full-on crashes, I got a ton of "you're disconnecting because this sim is going down" messages... the sim was always still there though. |

Yeah, big kudos for implementing bumping (not for clothing though, alas) but the effect needs to be toned down considerably. Everyone will mostly use the Lightness or Darkness settings so the bumping matches the texture, but the effect is just too much. It makes the surface too contrasty. About a third of the current effect would look much better. The presets look good, but using the lightness or darkness setting looks bad, but will be far more useful than the other presets if it can be made to look better. The new terrain textures look much nicer! New permissions look great. Love the new map features. And avatars now breathe! nice touch ![]() _____________________

Unlike the disaster of last night's version 1 update of There, I was truly impressed by the new features in this very beta build of 1.1.
Specifically, the improvements to the ground textures make it start to look much more like a world instead of the sort of odd 3d Studio pre-rendering look it has right now. Bump mapping is nice, I agree it needs toned down a bit, the effect is a little garish. Also, I hope we will be able to specify a second texture to use as the bump map. The stock ones are nice but limiting, and the brightness/darkness setting is not useful because the original texture may not contain the correct bump information. Changes to the avatars I was not crazy about - the faces have become more cartoony I think, and harder to adjust - I have grown attached to how my avatar looks and hope their face stays the same in the next version. I was disappointed by the removal of Focus On, I hope it reappears on the menu. I know you can hold down alt also, but it was nice to be able to click on something you want to look at and select focus on without reaching for a key. The pie menu is blank now in that section, so I am hoping they put that option back in. The new maps are great and extremely useful. Also, I love the Find Events functionality. It will dramatically improve access to events, and cut down on begging the Lindens to send me a notecard ![]() Flying has been improved very noticeably - I love the fact that you can press down to instantly stop yourself. I get so frustrated with the current flying system. The ability to summon someone to you is also very nice. I hope the ease at which you can summon someone does not cancel out the telehub feature, as I am looking forward to that as well. The chat group functionality, while interesting, needs a little work I think - that huge window is awkward, and it just gives me flashbacks to the game that feature was,um, borrowed from. I do like the zoomed in look at people - it makes it more entertaining to see their facial gestures. Overall, even in its current buggy form, the update was impressive and exciting. I can't wait to get to spend more time with some of the features I did not get to see, as well as the ones I did. Thank you so much for giving us the chance to experience it and start to adjust to it in advance of its formal release. While it still needs some work, it will definitely be worth the wait. |

Actually 1.1 stopped being buggy once when I teleported. It was wierd. I could see my name and the name of the person next to me. I am so excited about the new version.
