Definition of answers. What would description best fits you.

Socialite- Mainly spend all the L$ you get your hands on, on content. You love to attend events and go clubing. Your main goal in Second Life is to mingle, have fun and just escape reality and the real world. If you own a club that makes no profit, this would be your category as well

Create for pleasure- You love to create content but are not interested in making money. You either give away most the stuff you create or sell it at a price that gives you very little profit.

Create for profit- You love to create and see Second Life as a place of real life financial gain. Basically anyone who uses SL for some type of profit. You don't necessarily have to over price your content but you do want to come out ahead at all cost.

Socialite for profit- You own a club or gathering place with a profitable business model. You do not really have interest in creating content thatcould be sold but you do see a need to create content for people to gather and mingle. You have discovered a business model that allows you to profit from such activity. Other occupations may be a paid Escort, tour guide or fasion model.

I know many of us would be able to check multiple choices, but what category would you say fits you best.

think most Models, Dancers, Hotesses, Escorts, club owners - would fit into the simple "Socialite" catagory

since the money for being social is lousy

I create for pleasure. But the money doesn't suck.

Since I fit between Create for Pleasure and Create for Profit, I asked myself;
If I didn't enjoy creating, would I still do it for the money? No.
If I didn't make any money, would I still create? Yes.

From the choices above, I'd say I'm a socialite for pleasure. But I don't feel like any of the choices fit me real well.

On the one hand I can relate to pure social folks, and on the other to pure creative folks. I'd like to think that no matter which side of the fence you're on, I encourage people to check out the other side.

I do spend most of my time sharing my passion for Second Life the only way I know how - fellowship :)

What Jonquille said. I put creating for profit, but I would not agree with the part that says making a profit at all costs. Especially not if you counted the hours put in!

I agree with Jonq but voted create for profit simply because Fate Gardens has made a profit this calendar year. I'll honestly be happy if it just continues to break even. Right now my job and my hobby both afford me opportunities to do things I enjoy, and pay me on top of it.

I don't honestly know if I'd tier Fate Gardens down if the business failed to meet it's expenses. Probably not considering that I payed to play for over a year before I started scripting and selling plants that change textures and sizes, including tiny, at the owners whim.

Ahem well yes see I create for pleasure yes that's it.

Maybe I worded it wrong, I hope we are all here because we are having fun. I just wanted to get a feel for the number of people who sell things very cheao, or those who think of creations in terms of "time is money"

This is all going into a study on the economy.

Well, time is money, yes - I would definitely agree to that. But I don't set prices ACCORDING to that. I set prices according to what looks somewhat lower than typical for the item. Or I try to, it's hard to tell, sometimes, despite how much research you do and how many people you ask.

Interesting. I sell what wouldn't really be considered cheap product, but many, many of my customers have told me that I undercharge. Realistically, I could be selling the thing at 1.5 to two times its current price, but I'm more interested in volume and market share.

So it's a very complicated question and answer, indeed. :)

Importantly, though, my products are all stuff I'd love to have for myself, and exhibit the same sort of polish I would demand from other products, so there's definitely a personal pleasure element to what I make and sell. My business grew out of making stuff for fun. I think some of the best and most successful businesses had pleasure building as their initial push, as well. It's fine to want to make money -- I want to make as much of it as I'm worthy of keeping -- but the finest products come not from the love of money, but from the love of the products themselves.

I'd still consider myself about mid-way. Like Enabran and some others I know, people have told me I should raise or double my prices. I would make a lot more profit if I did, but I'm not going to. I price based on what I would want to pay for something, and the memory of being a newbie and having to choose between pants or a shirt because my stipend didn't allow for both.

Profit is great, but it's not why I'm here, or why I create things. I'd rather have a lot of very happy customers than a few rich ones.
