Exclamation IMPORTANT: 1.6.5 Release Day Moved Up to May 16th!
We are planning on updating the Second Life grid to 1.6.5 tomorrow morning, Monday May 16, starting at 6:30 AM. Therefore, Second Life will be down for update from 6:30 am until 12:00pm PST. See below for the 1.6.5 Release Notes.

Second Life 1.6.5(5) May 5, 2005
================================

* Fixed bug where idle/away from keyboard residents would not be logged out for inactivity.
* The "Stop" button for animation steps in the new gesture window works again.
* Land in estates can no longer be set for sale.
* You cannot buy a parcel for L$0 unless you are the authorized buyer.
* You cannot find a L$0 parcel in the directory unless you are the authorized buyer.
* Find Places not longer shows land on non-visible islands/estates.
* Text hovering over objects set with the LSL script command llSetText() now correctly wraps at 1000 pixels instead of 300.
* Replaced the "nice snapshot" in the Library photo album.
* Edit tools window now correctly remains minimized while walking.
* Fixed a performance problem with certain QuickTime media streams.
* Simulator crash recovery is more reliable.
* Attachments save on teleport only if they have changed since the last teleport or login. Scripted attachments always save. This makes teleports faster and reduces the load on our central "asset server."
* Internal changes to llGetNextEmail() reduce load on our central database.

Who wants to bet that this will (or won't) solve our login problems?

These problems are caused by the heavy database load we are seeing, and are the result of objects not being transferred into the part of the database where your inventory is stored. We are working as fast as we can on a fix - hopefully tommorow morning, that will restore performance.

For the more technically minded - the problem is actually NOT the asset server (or 'asshat' as you prefer to affectionately call it herein). The database and the asset servers are different - since moving to the Isilon hardware for assets we have adequate capacity and performance. The problem is with insertion or lookup queries in inventory being timed out by the huge database load we are suffering from right now.
