Thanks to the stipend error, a lot of my community team suddenly and unexpectedly went bankrupt thus causing them to quit. Apart from me losing some money as well, I can't support the people.
So in response to only 3 people left in my project including me thanks to stipends, I am protesting.
If anyone else feels that they were robbed, come join our protest. Give me an IM!

Well I don't know about protesting but I was also met with a stripend error. I have been working to get pices of stuff built (while Sage has ben mesteriously eating peoples work without refunding its cash resource) and found myself only brought back to L$1000 from L$5 instead of L$3.5k as normal.
This is causing my group to come to me with a lot fo questions of how we are going to get this done, let alone aford it. I don't want to protest but we need some help here bad!

All for protest
06-15-2003 01:39
yeah protest the taxing system. Every week people are getting screwed over on the taxation. I don't see it getting any better. I feel bad for all the people that became lifers and are now regretting it. Maybe that's what the email was for to get as many lifers as possible, make their $160.00 X however many people went for it and then make it where the taxes make the game less fun. I can definetely see that, it's their way of charging 160 bucks for people to chat in 3-D. Down with Taxes, Down with Government.

SL screwed up
06-15-2003 07:48
I also say that we protest against the screwy taxes. I got screwed myself. I was supposed to get 16 grand on taxes and didnt get a dollar of it. If any1 wants to protest, Ive created a group called the angered avatars. IM me to get invited. Every1 becomes an officer.

Heh... and here the Lindens are, scrambling their butts off trying to get the game into 1.0, and everyone's screaming and yelling about tax woes. Ouch They now officially have their work cut out for them!

lol Consider this as final. If you think about it, it's not much different. The lindens will actually have a lot more people maybe as well as trying to update things to be better. So if the lindens can't handle it well here, it is not much different as when final releases. With all that said, I think the lindens are doing a good job. But maybe they need more man power lol. I see some jobs for people hint hint

I dunno, I wouldn't consider it final. I'm not talking about the typical "They'll pull a patch out at the last minute and make EVERYTHING WORK!" stuff that comes in at the end of beta... but there will be bugs fixed. At this point, our job is still to test and build up the world for release. I just can't understand getting ANGRY. Upset, yeah. Frustrated, sure. But angry? Man, LL has got to have been one of the absolute best companies I've dealt with. People are accessable and friendly, there's no wipe at the end of beta, there are MASSIVE discounts for beta users. Eesh. Bugs happen and they suck, but it IS still beta and they DO have time to fix things before we pay them anything.

Very tru Dat, thats why I tried to switch my tone towards the changes needed to be made to keep customers interested, as LL is the best company I have ever dealt with, computer related or not. Major thumbs up so far )

Right on I agree with ya there The Lindens are doing far better than my expatations Taxes...well if it helps any I have only had problems with the$L-2k and such for the past 3 stippinds. Perhaphs something was changed 3 weeks ago that is having an adverse affect on the economy. For the record I was able to build more, upload more and feel a little more at ease 3 weeks ago. I log on thinking well I will just add a wall or a roof piece I get that done and say inspiration hits (had 230.00 when I logged in after last stippend) but inspiration hits and i want a bookshelf and of course i want to fill it with gifts from friends. BUT its still just a bookcase not an extenstion on the house or gawd forbid the windows I realy want to do. So as I am about to log off I notice my bank account has dropped to 70.00. So of course now I wonder what I shall do on my next two days off. Time to earn some cash I suppose. Have an excellent day all (ya i am at work shhh Cat

Well, the way I look at it is this is called Second Life, not "fantasy life" or "build to your hearts content Life" etc. Technology has allowed us to do things that former generations didn't dream of. Like my grandfather in Slovakia as a child hearing about talking walls that was the radio. But anybody who has ever worked in a high tech developement enterprise knows that there is one boundary you simply can not ignore, and that is resources. It is the killer of all developement dreams that end up being called fantasies instead of products.
Are the taxes applied fairly, until I see the algorithym that applies them I have no idea about the answer to that. Is a tax system the only way to distribute resources, again, I don't know, but for all the bitching about them I have not heard word one about a REAL alternative that allows SL to escape the junk yard of dead fantasies and remain the viable PRODUCT it is.
Secondly there are two aspects to Beta, one is for us to complain in a thoughtful manner, and secondly for the Lindens to fix complaints that prove to be justified. Personally the only mistake the Lindens made was calling it taxes. At least in the USA that is the kiss of death semantically. But for all the success folks on this side of the Atlantic have had in decreasing taxes, there is another side that screams that their public schools are going to hell because of being starved for (you guessed it) resources. The anti tax attitude is well taken by all. Now it is time to hear a real alternative to it. Here is the tax that virtually every other world puts on its players: a closed system. Is that what you want? I do not.

I keep getting worked and I get no response...
06-16-2003 11:39
Simple I think, but maybe I don't understand how stipend works. I own no land. I had 1200 to my name. I have no objects floating around SL I recieved 145 L$ stipend this week. Whats the deal? I want to sign up as a lifelong member and have been planning on it, but I still haven't recieved a response about this. No one has gotten back to me and the Lindens that I asked IG didnt have an answer. Why should I fork out the RL money, if I wont be able to afford to live and build In game? I want my stipend. It's hard to continue and progress In game without cash. Especially when you are part of one of the groups in the new sims, and need the cash in order to build before the sim goes public. Please let me know. crow

CrowCatcher, how much tax did you pay, and in what categories? It sounds like you're being taxed for something, assuming you haven't collected dozens of negative ratings. Maybe you have a stray object somewhere, or maybe you bought some land that you forgot about. With zero rating bonus, you should be making L$1000 a week up to L$3500.

Crows comments are clearly an example of a legitimate beta complaint that needs to be addressed as to source of the problem and what the resolution is in terms of a fix, not just a compensation.
