An SL software idea...

How many people out there in RL would support Linden Labs to creating a new piece of software that could exist outside of SL and away from the web?
Here's my idea:
A piece of software for building from prims and textures that would allow build time while not online, that has the facility to upload final creations once logged in.
I try to get online and into SL as often as possible but occasionally find myself with my laptop, away from somewhere I can log in. During those times I wish, wish, wish I could continue fiddling with some of my build projects... but can't.
The scripting gurus can script to their hearts' content using any form of text editing away from SL, but what about us builders, eh?
Thoughts on a postcard please...

We've asked. LL says no.
My personal thoughts is that LL wants to encourage people logging into SL, but it may not be that simple. I think it's inevitable that this kind of tool will happen, eventually.

Bugger. That's a shame. Well maybe they'll get round to changing their minds some time?

We've tried to make one, and got pretty far actually, but got a little burned out / busy with RL stuff. It's open source - You can still help out: SL style prims: http://sourceforge.net/project/screenshots.php?group_id=136861Main site: http://metaverse.sf.netCheck out the forums and the wiki if you're interested.

I was hoping for something like this at one point - until I realised that I have met pretty much all my friends in the sandboxes. I now think it is great that I have to log in to build. People stop by and comment on your progress, ask questions, offer advice, etc. I think if there were an offline building app, the sandboxes might be far emptier places, with less chance for collaboration and friendships.

Allowing one to run own servers would enable benefitting from both One could have his/her private sim as a sandbox, people could connect there (if public access, or on the access list otherwise) to build cooperatively, etc...

I dont understand why people somehow think SL should be about meeting people, and that meeting people is such a great thing. I mean, do you use any other software to meet people? I already know more people than I can possibly maintain a relationship with. I talk to them on the phone, on skype, i communicate through various email and instant messaging interfaces, and also through Second Life. Meeting people on the Internet is so 1996

Following on from your post Eggy I have an idea for a new game: InteractOrDie! There is a conveyor belt that you're in front of. You have a mallet. Every time you press a key the mallet hits the conveyor belt. Coming past are phones, mobiles, laptops with MSN and ICQ and stuff on etc, and you have to hit each one
