I have a not so crazy idea. With all the SL-TV projects going on, it seems wierd that you have watch it via a quicktime stream in SL. It is simply put, awkward. I have tried to watch a Future salon Event via the webstream. It wasn't enjoyable.

We are in a 3D world and it doesn't seem crazy to me to that any Live "TV" broadcast could be 3d aswell. SL already sends all the information needed to the clients. What I envision is some sort of record object that sends all the data in a given radius to a broadcast server.
People that want to see it, have a Stage Object from wich you can connect to the broadcast server. And on the stage you would see exaclty the same as if you where at the live event yourselve.

I know, right now there aren't many events that you want to see like this if there are any.
But with the SL-TV projects going on now, i can see that it is quiet possible that there will be alot more. I noticed allready that the sim where the SuperFox Show is hosted gets full quick.
But besides the TV projects, TownHall and Future Salon meetings could profit from such a system aswell. We have repeaters, but SL is a 3d virtual world not a text mud. Wouldn't it be great if you could see the Philip avater himself talking about sl growth and Rez a 3D Chart to show. Right now he can do that only at the spot he is at. All us at the repeaters miss all that.

What i would like to discuss is what is necessary to make this possible. What can we do, what has LL to do to make it possible. What would be the side effects, etc.

It think such a system could be a real enrichment to SL. I could see many possible uses.

Cool idea. I think a "viewer only" client would be great.

Yeah, kind of like a 3D shoutcast. That'd be kinda neat.

"User-created content takes the idea of leveraging player opinions a step further by allowing them to effectively prototype new ideas and features. Developers can then measure which new concepts most improve the products and incorporate them into the game in future patches."

That would be cool.
