Seriously, don't you think that kind of forum would be nice?
Had no other place to post this:
Anyway...what is the limit to the size of a texture you can upload? Is it 1024x1024? I'm asking about this in relation to creating one of those little "TV" things that play an animation. What's the max size? Would a 4096x128 texture work?

I have uploaded a 4096x2048 texture to use as an animation. It works fine, but it takes forever for SL to get around to pushing the whole full-rez version to the client, so unless someone spends a lot of time staring at the object or a lot of time hanging around near the object, it will just look fuzzy YMMV

I tried doing a 1024x2048 upload and it seems to me like it actually resized the thing smaller. I spent a heck of a lot of time in the area so it should have been able to load, but it was still very fuzzy unless it was resized very small. I just recently tried uploading the same animation using two 1024x1024 textures and the difference is incredible.
I don't know, it seemed to me that it was making the texture 512x1024 by resizing smaller or something...which obviously would trash the quality pretty bad. I wish we knew for sure how it worked.

Yeah it took me days to find out how to change my profile lol. I think you click the profile button under one of your posts.
Edit: No sorry I'm being stupid. I think it 's in the dropdown on the forum page (Forum Jump dropdown, look below).... find User Control Panel.

I think he meant forum profiles, and now I'm fully awake and I KNOW that my above post is correct (although fuzzily explained).
Just below this thread look down at the Forum Jump dropdown box (next the the "Rate this thread" dropdown) and pick User Control Panel...it's near the top.

A seperate forum to focus on these would be cool...just like the scripters have. It just makes finding things you need easier and focuses on that specific subject which may bring more people to visit the forums. And there are way more people who use textures and model than script.

Just so I can feel like I'm participating...yeah, I think that's a great idea too. If nothing else, it'll be a good place to ask even the most mundane questions like: "..how in gods name do you do alpha channels in Paint Shop Pro 8???" ...which coincidentally is a question of mine...but that comes primarily from unfamiliarity with the graphic artist world. To me, drawing on a PC is Paint in Windows and a "oooh look! I drew a pink SQUARE!".... I think I can't be the only person who, SL is an influence for them to learn these new tools like Photoshop or the cheaper cousin, Paint Shop Pro ...now scripting...that's just programming right? I do that all day long. Programming is easy!!! ANYONE can program!! Just kidding! Ryu

I agree having a forum for texture / modeling would be great... for both those who are new to it and experienced people too. There's always something more to be learned / tips and tricks everyone might not know, etc. It would be good to have a central place for this knowledge.
