Is the MegaTower in BonnyDoon the tallest, usable structure in SL?

Right now? Perhaps. I dont know. How tall is it? A lot of people experimented with super tall builds even in the bad old days where you paid a shitload of money for height taxes. In the summer of 2003 I was working for the jessie crowd, and they had an elevator that took you way up in the air to a floating platform. I dont remember how tall it was. A few months later, Briana had one such elevator/platform build.

Hey Hank, funny you mention this... an inquisitive newbie... his first name was Tom, I think, wanted to see a REALLY tall tower. I told him about the MegaTower. ;)

Hey, I dont know how you define a usable sturcture but way back in beta when me and christopher first started to mess around with autorezzors we autorezzed a stairway all the way up to the "sky". Back then, you couldnt go above 512m though.

Well the MegaTower starts at 27m and ends at 768m. The usable space for people to live and shop is between 27m and 500m, what I define as "usable space", with viewing platform, skydiving platform and radio tower between 500m and 768m.

Lots of towers are just empty shells, and maybe have an apartment or two, but I'm comparing to usable structures out there! :D

I am certain it *is* the tallest Tower Hank (a build that provides a useable and contained space for most of its height), but is also one of the simplest in terms of design (and I dont mean that in any bad way at all). I guess towers this high have to be simple repeats because of the huge number of prims they munch. How many prims was it Hank?

I went to visit the megaTower a week or two ago and it is super fab, a really good piece of work by Hank. The turbo lift thing is brutal. There just isn't enough height in SL.

Actually, the plan is now to extend the building across 4 sim borders, increasing the size and m^2 capacity! :D

The structure (walls, windows, floor, elevator railings, and elevator system) is approximately 1500 prims, which leave about 4500 prims for residents and 1000 prims for overage/trees/patios/docks/etc.

Yeah, it does use pretty much the same objects. Need to add some variety with textures. However, the more prim detail you add, the less prims you have for actual resident content, (i.e. "usable";).

Well if that thing is 740 meters tall and fully usable I have to admit it's quite possibly a record. How many people actually use it tho? With such a tall building, the maximum available prim density per apartment has to be atrociously slim.

The apartments are 65 prims for 500sqm of "space". Commercial spaces are 40 prims, there are larger ones available too.

Ouch. I'm so used to my little 50 prim chairs I had no idea how little primmage the average user has to play with.

Hahha Eggy! I wish we had a lot more prims to work with. More prims allows more detailed and interesting builds :)
