I was trying to find the altitude limit in SL. I think I found that it is 300,000 meters. After I went past approximately that point, the llGetPos function stopped working (so I couldn't tell what altitude I was at) and basically all scripting stopped working. I then had to log out to get down. Can anyone else confirm that 300,000 meters is the altitude limit?

My guess is some moisture got into your equipment and then froze. Did you avatar get a nose bleed?
Wouldn't it be incredibly expensive to build up there?
I think it would be a good idea for LL to add a sim or two that has no land or water associated with it, and then give people who want to build space objects a way to teleport there. Since the sim would be specifically designed for that purpose there would be no height penalty associated with things built at any altitude on those sims. (the same prim limits would apply etc).
Just a thought.

Yeah I had to go heal up and dry out my equipment A weird thing did happen though. About about 150,000 meters, the graphics started jittering and it steadily got worse. It think it would be cool to be able to build space structures.

I agree! That would so so cool, a pure flight sim. Ohhhh, in my mind I see Larry Niven's novel, not sure the name, I think it's Intregal Trees? A sort of lost colony of humans living in a dense nebula bobbling between two suns. Wonderful idea to bring to a sim or two.

If we had a space sim, a moderately heavy object tax, combined with teleportation costs and maybe an "air tax" could keep things in hand, growth-wise. There would have to be even more limits on how large prims could be in space to reflect the difficulty in transport. I'll bet a lot of us would choose to spend the majority of our time up there. How can you tell how high you are? The llGetPos function stopped working for me at about 300,000 meters.

Well with the power of alienware and an attachment that used llSetForce I got up to that height before logging off from inactivity :-/
