Literal or figurative question?
When an avatar is teleported, the assets are "created" at the other end and "deleted" from memory at the point of origin. In the code, yes, the data is created and destroyed. Figuratively, this depends on how much "roleplay" you invest in your avatar. _____________________

When an avatar is teleported, the assets are "created" at the other end and "deleted" from memory at the point of origin. In the code, yes, the data is created and destroyed. The data is not necessesarily destroyed, because we retain our key. Teleporting would be equivelant to the omipotent hand in the sky putting my no-copy avatar in its inventory at the old location, and re-rezzing it at the new location. No assets are created or destroyed. Well, other then perhaps a copy of your avatar that has been locally cached on a simulator. AFAIK, if the UUID of the object remains the same, then for all intents and purposes, it is that object. If the av "died" in a LSL sence of the word (llDie) then you could make the case that the data has been destroyed. ==Chris _____________________

Well, we might want to get a sense of what the garbage collection is doing.
If the asset database is heaven (or, in the case of SL probably hell) and you are re-initialized upon teleport, I would say that yes, you are temporarily dead. _____________________

I think it's closer to sleeping, but sometimes I come away from the experience believing it a near-death experience:
Whenever I TP somewhere, I find myself in a black void with a turquoise band of light moving left to right, as if to beckon me elsewhere. Above the band are words that reassure me I'm arriving, and when I do arrive, the world before me slowly comes into focus as if I'm waking from a dream. But sometimes the words above the turquoise light tell me, in stilted techno-geek language, "Go Back, Go Back", and instead of waking in Ahern or a sandbox, I'm safe and snug where I started from. _____________________

Actually, it is a shift in the space-time continuum. The avatar as it existed at the moment of initiation ceases to exist, however a new avatar with all memories and the full inventory of the deceased is propelled into what is, essentially, an alternate metaverse which so closely resembles the one known as to be indistinguishable.
One could assert that, with back-to-back teleportations, an avatar might travel to such an end as to arrive at a totally unrecognizable metaverse, and indeed, some claim to have done just that, especially in certain sims where reality is considered passe'. _____________________

I think it slightly closes his/her avatar eyes, bites his/her tongue and seal his/her lips...
Puts his/her hands tight covering his/her head, one hand on her, then the other holding tight all jewelry Crosses legs tight to hold anything that can falls down. Then concentrates in the transition and thinks very tight.... for name of sim and coordinates... And then when it gets there, opens his/her eyes and slowly waits for hair to hopefully appear on head. Waits and waits hopefully to see everything arrived together _____________________

Remember that one Star Trek:TNG where Riker's transporter beam got reflected back to the surface of some planet and there ends up being two copies of him? Only it had happened years before, and the reflected copy had a whole different life going for him.

You are all missing the most important question. Does an avatar have a soul? And if so what happens to this immortal soul upon crossing through one of these teleports?
