Awesome!

I had heard about the possibilty that it would close, and was not very happy about it.

It's a rock-n-roll institution!

Last year, a similar thing happened here in Minneapolis, they tried to close down First Avenue, where Soul Asylum, The Suburbs, Prince, The Information Society, Babes in Toyland, The Time, Husker Du, and many other acts got their start. Many nationally known groups perform there while on tour.

A local entrepreneur stepped in and saved it from destruction... Thank God!

We need to protect places like these!

What does OMFUG mean? I've always wondered that.

For that matter, what do the letters CBGB stand for?

Never mind, answered my own question. Wikipedia is indeed a great thing.

I am not a musician, but I got to perform for three minutes in front of a full house on the CBGB stage. I was aware of the history of the place and it is still one of those moments in life I cherish, even though I never have a reason to mention it usually. When I was there, I dont know if its a local thing or what, but I was told that OMFUG meant, "only musicians f*** ugly girls"

I wasnt aware that CBGB was in any trouble, cool to see a judge stand up for it.

Does this mean they won't be opening CBGBs in Las Vegas? I was really hoping to see another national institution ruined completely :(

/me also licks Lo.

Here is an excellent book for those who might not realize how important CBGB's is in the history of American Punk rock. Gabba gabba hey.

Hooray! Another currently irrelevant former institution that can't pay the bills has been temporarily saved so we can pretend it still matters. I'm into the history of our american institutions as much as anybody, but once one of these american institution loses it's economic viability -- and worse, becomes a financial burdon to others -- why do we feel it's ncessary to sustain the negative cash-flow? Sentimentality can only pay the rent for so long. Starbucks can pay the rent forever.
