I've only been on SL for nearly a week (just got the 'your trial is nearly over' email).
Has anyone thought of making a list of textures they are happy to let others use freely? Also sounds uploaded.
If I understand correctly, whenever a texture or audio is uploaded it is assigned a large key to make it unique and with the 'security by obscurity' thing we assume nobody else will use our textures as they don't know the key to the texture.
Now, my questions is.. has anyone thought of creating an off-SL list of keys to textures and sounds or even whack a page up on the wiki with any textures/sounds they don't mind others using.
I can see where there's going to be hundreds of copies of the same (or similar) textures. eg. When everyone uploads woodtexture.tga for their floorboards or something. Would it not help to reduce duplication by making a free to use list? Obviously you may want to leave out the more risque textures and sounds (or put them on another site
).What do you think about this? It might help some newbies (such as myself - no thats not why I started this thread) to start creating some nice objects while we learn prim creation, linking etc.
Or do you think it's a big conspiracy from LL to make sure everyone uses their Lindens to upload duplicates
Maybe this has already been suggested/discussed, but I cannot find anything in the forums.
