I noticed that in a recent Gamasutra publishing, they mentioned that Linden Labs had picked up a new tree generation system for thier next generation second life client.
So, what's up with that, Lindens? Are you guys cooking up something wild and crazy over there?
I'm posting this to general so that people can speculate wildly, but I hope the Lindens spot the post and reply!

by 'next generation' do they mean we have to wait for Havok 2 before we get the new trees?

I would wager, based on comments overheard, that after 1.7 (which has been stated as 'on the menu') we'll see Second Life 2.0 with the new rendering engine (including SpeedTree) and Havok 2.

1.7 will have Havok-2 and whatever else we can fit into the time it takes for us to get Havok-2 done.
After that, if we have the new rendering and scripting engines done together then we'll probably call the following update 2.0 rather than 1.8.

Woohoo, we're finally moving to Python? Or is it going to be LSL3?

While I'm not against learning Python, it would be quite the shock if we moved to it from the C based LSL language we're using now...
It'll be interesting to see what they come up with anyhow.
Thanks Andrew.
