You know I reread this post, the realized, here I am again, talking about money. So I deleted most of it.
It's probably fair to say that taxes are causing a serious problem with the gameplay, and making dedicated players unhappy in general. One flat tax on any object, even if it's for a linden project or a themed community, is broken.
I will point out one glaring fact; I have paid almost 7k in taxes for land that wasn't even stitched on yet. I strongly, strongly, (strongly!) feel this money should be refunded.
The theory of cutting up server resources by setting up an economy is rational...perhaps too much so. It ties me to the concerns of "server resources". I appreciate that on a technical level, not a gameplay one.
Doing anything that I like to do in the game is no longer possible unless I take handouts, which puts me in a debt cycle. My alternatives are to delete hard work, get out of projects, or game the system...which is possible without exploiting bugs. Ethics? Tell you what...make me a sign so I can proclaim my superior morality, since I can't afford to make it myself. I got given a "I'm In" button, but had to find somebody else so I could see what it looked like, since I couldn't afford to rez it.
Make taxes more flexible. You have to. I can't keep worrying about money in game, it's no fun at all.

Sorry to hear this Tcoz... I really loathe taxes as well, what Im trying to do is to make all my complex projects rezable and have them only activate when people are near them. This is a pain however, as you need to make rezing a complex process (for large objects) as well... because of the limit of 10 meters (IMHO pathetic). Also, this behavior messes up the stipend page, but ive gotten used to it... anything just to curb taxes a little is great by me. I hope you find some solution to your problem Tcoz... I really would hate to see all the cool stuff you created have to be deleted.

Thanks Christopher (and Lynnix), plz understand Im not looking for sympathy, and I know that hundreds of other players are in the same place. I'm just journaling my experience with this facet of the game.

I am getting sick of taxes as well.
NO TAXATION WITHOUT REPRESENTATION!
Until we are allowed to rule our own governments, LINDEN SHOULDN'T TAX US! Deal with THAT, Linden!

Hi Tcoz,
Sorry about the tax troubles. I just posted to Charlie's thread with some thoughts - check out the discussion there.
As to the $7K in non-connected land - please send me a private message in the forums and give me some further information on that - I'll see what makes sense.
You do unbelievably high quality work, and that should be rewarded in SL. Please jump into the discussion on taxes, come to the town hall, etc.

I couldn't agree with your last line more Tcoz.
As a rule, I have always done my works (for other people) for free. I have flat refused compensation cause up until this latest debacle I only needed my weekly alowance of 3.5k. I could add onto my home, create new things for others and even add some land here and there. The system worked fine.
Now... I recently took on a project for a custom avatar for money. I don't like having to do it, but I NEED the money. Frankly I NEED money in real life to survive, I don't want to NEED money to create art. This world is supposed to be a form of escapisum. We are suddenly failling to escape, in a very bad way.
